This week, reports suggest Apple is gearing up to launch its video streaming service in spring, while device maker Roku is adding premium US streaming services to the Roku channel, adopting a similar business model to Amazon's Channels product.

Just a week after Viacom acquired Pluto TV for $340m (see The Amp, issue 112), fellow ad-funded streaming platform Tubi TV has pledged $100m for content for its own service. Following on from its recent deal with David Attenborough, Netflix has signed a multi-year deal with Blue Planet II creator, James Honeyborne.

In the UK and Ireland, sports streamer Eleven Sports is handing over top flight Italian soccer league Serie A rights to Premier Sports, causing further fragmentation of top soccer leagues across UK sports subscription services.

Comcast is hoping to take Sky's subscription OTT offering Now TV global with plans to launch the service in additional markets in 2020, while in Spain it has dropped the price of Sky's OTT service from €9.99 per month to €6.99 in the hopes of driving uptake. Telekom Austria's domestic consumer brand A1 is launching a youth-geared OTT service, which will include a selection of sport, music and entertainment content.
