African Americans and Eminent Domain in Falls Church
Thursday, February 28 | 7 pm
Come listen to a talk by local historian Edwin Henderson on how the land of prominent Falls Church African Americans was seized for the construction of Lee Highway in the early twentieth century.  Using old land records and maps, Mr. Henderson will paint a picture of Falls Church’s African American community at the turn of the century and describe how Falls Church’s invoking of eminent domain affected the community.

Edwin Henderson is a retired Fairfax County Public Schools history teacher and the grandson of civil rights and sports icon Dr. E.B. Henderson. In 2014 he received a grant from the Griot Apprenticeship Program and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities to preserve and promote local African American history. (
