Additional information for graduates of Manresa's spiritual direction training is included below - I hope you can participate in some of what is offered.
The snowdrops arrive first, seemingly tentative and delicate, but with a resilience that sees them accept sunshine and dark, and deal with mild or hasher days. With the showier daffodils, they spell hope and promise and help us to recognise the lengthening days.
Agus Lá le Bríde ar lámh, guímís go meadfaí do dhóchas. You will be welcome to join us here in Manresa for any of the events described below - or for such time as you may be able to arrange.
May you find yourself seeking, finding and cherishing light in these darkening days.

Graduate Day - Saturday 23 February 2019

Safeguarding and spiritual direction

Awareness of safeguarding has become central to the church’s pastoral activity. The ministry of spiritual direction brings its own perspectives and questions. This morning will be an opportunity to examine the spiritual directors responsibilities in the light of statutory policies and consider what best practice means in the context of spiritual accompaniment. Among the aspects which will be considered are what it means to be a mandated person, balancing expectations of confidentiality and reporting and attention to boundaries.

(If there are particular questions that you would like to hear addressed, you are welcome to submit them here)!

The formal input on this Graduate Day will be in the morning only. Participants are welcome to depart after lunch or even more welcome to take an ‘oasis afternoon’. Members of the Retreat Team will offer some brief input ("What's on my bookshelf" and "Pointers for prayer") and suggestions for a fruitful afternoon which will might allow you consider

  • spending some time in quiet, prayer and reflection,
  • with your year group
  • availing of some pointers for prayer and reflection whcih will be offered after lunch.
  • catching up with someone for a longer spiritual conversation than such days usually allow
  • joining a small faith-sharing group.
We will conclude the afternoon with mass at 5:00 p.m.

The presenter

The morning’s session will be conducted by Saoirse Fox, a registered systemic psychotherapist who has worked and trained in child protection and safeguarding in church contexts. Saoirse previously worked with young people in social care and social work. She is currently Safeguarding Delegate for the Irish Jesuit Province.

The first cohort of supervisors-in-training will finish their course in May of this year. We are currently receiving applications for the second group, whcih will begin in May of this year and conclude in May 2020. You can read more about this training we offer in association with Together in the Mystery on our website or come along to the Graduate Day when you will be able to meet some who are currently engaged in the course.

Applications can be made online through Together in the Mystery. Closing date for applications is Friday 1 March 2019.

Our graduate day in October saw a number of people interested in continuing to explore the significance of BioSpiritual Focusing for them. John Keane will conduct an eight-week reading course beginning next week. Based on the book Rediscovering the Lost Body-Connection Within Christian Spirituality, written by Fr. Peter A. Campbell, Ph.D., and Fr. Edwin M. McMahon, Ph.D., each evening will include a presentation and group discussion on the topics of specific chapters, followed by Experiential Focusing sessions.

Applications are currently being accepted for the spiritual direction training course 2019 to 2021. This may be the time to encourage someone to consider submitting an application before the deadline of 30 April 2019. You may wish to point anyone interested to our website or pick up a brochure when you are here on the Graduates' Day.

A little bonus for Lá le Bríde  - the usual content continues after your Cathie Ryan's rendition...(in lovely New York Irish)

Movies that Matter returns with a new selection of films. Each month, a film will be preceded by a brief introduction and afterwards there will be an opportunity to reflect both personally and as a group on the issues and values illustrated.

Movies that Matter

The Farthest

Ire, 2017, 121 mins, Cert PG

More than 12 billion miles away a tiny NASA spaceship called Voyager is leaving our Solar System and entering the void of deep space. This inspiring and uplifting documentary pays tribute to the ingenuity of scientists who created a craft with less computing power than a modern smart phone and which has now entered interstellar space.

Bring your camera along for a time to notice what is happening around you - and take some time to see what is seeking life within you.

This weekend retreat will use light as a metaphor for life, evoking ancient wisdom from the Christian tradition. Led by Steve Radley, an award winning photographer and Anglican priest, characteristics and qualities of light will be explored and participants will be invited to find, reflect on and share images

  • 8:00 pm Friday 22 March 2019 to 2:00 pm Sunday 24 March 2019
Sometimes it is easier to be silent when in the company of others; if you would like to join a group to sit in stillness and quiet, you are welcome to Sitting in Silence. Rather than offering  teaching, instruction or guidance, these evenings will simply present an opportunity for companionable,  contemplative quiet.  Whether you are familiar with meditation or just seeking a quiet time, you will be welcome to join,  coming in time to let the silence be held from 6 to 6:30 p.m. each evening. (You are welcome to come from 5:45 p.m.)
  • 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. Wednesday 20 February, 27 February and 6 March 2019

Caith lá i Manresa in atmaisféar séamh ciún. Mar "Oasis Day", cuimsíonn lá mar seo roinnt eilimintí: am machnaimh, paidir threoraithe, seal leat féin agus deis chun bualadh le stiúrthóir spioradálta no dul ar faoistín; críochnaíonn ceiliúradh an Eocairist gach lá. Cé go mbeidh tú i do thost, nuair a cuiretar aon rud i láthair, is as Gaeilge a mbeidh sé.

Bíodh seal ciúin agat

Stay for some time of quiet and prayer
