CIRCLE OF JOY

10 YEARS OF SERVICE

The Community Investment Network extends a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the Circle of Joy of Atlanta, Georgia for their 10-year anniversary held on Friday, October 19, 2018.  The Circle of Joy has gifted over $75,000 in Time, Talent and Treasure to several metro Atlanta organizations supporting our youth over the past 10 years!   On the night of their anniversary they continued to do what they do well--they gifted several organizations for the amazing work they do in the Atlanta and surround areas:
  • The Villages at Carver YMCA has been a long time supporter of the Circle of Joy. The Y believes that in order to bring about meaningful change in individuals and communities, it is a must to be focused and accountable. They measure the success of their cause by how well they engage communities. One major focus area of the Y is that of Youth Development through nurturing the potential of every child and teen.
  • A Friend Like Me makes dolls for children who are sick, going through an illness or have to be hospitalized and may not be able to play with other children. Dolls are created for every illness, for every disorder and for all nationalities so that children can have a friend that was just like them, a friend they could relate to and a friend that would always be there when they feel alone.
  • Technologists of Color is a passionate collection of Information Technology Professionals in the Atlanta area serving our youth. These professionals have developed and host a signature program entitled "Code the World" which is a series of programming workshops for students from elementary through high school. The workshop covers technologies such as Arduino, JavaScript, mobile and web app development.
Our College Initiative, #wearephilanthropists Project, spread the word of collective giving and the power of giving circles far and wide. This led to the development of new student giving circles, including the circles highlighted below.
Phenomenal Women
Faji McCurdy, Carine Lewis (adviser), Shalandria Gardner, Impress Williams (pictured from left to right) created a giving circle to combat low-self esteem among young women on campus through mentorship, fellowship and help from community partners.
The Trenches
Shundarrius Goins, Khalia Kennedy, Gerron Kent and Brandon Williams (pictured from left to right) created a giving circle to provide a platform for black creatives through social engagement, networking, and media.

Stay tuned for more highlights from 2018 from our college initiative.
