Greetings!
Each year Hays is proud to host our regional solo & ensemble contest. This years solo and ensemble contest will be held on February 2nd here on the HHS campus. Students are expected to show up prepared for their individual rehearsal. It is not the job of the accompanist to teach you how to play your solo!!! Please allow yourself plenty of time before your assigned time to warm-up.
On the day of the contest, student will need to report to the old band hall for warm-up. It is suggested that students show up 30 minutes prior to their performance time to allow themselves time to warm-up and tune their instrument as well as travel to their performance room. Students should begin heading to their performance room 10 minutes prior to their performance.
Here is an example:
Solo performance time is 3:00pm
Arrive at old band hall at 2:30pm
Warm-Up / Tune from 2:30-2:50pm
Transition to performance room at 2:50pm
Perform solo / ensemble at 3:00pm
Following your performance, you are free to leave. Results will be posted in the music building periodically (similar to the region band process).
Performance times have been posted at the front of the band hall since earlier this week and students should already know their individual times. We have attached a copy of the most updated performance schedule below for reference. Please triple check your time so that you are not late!!
Our Hays High School Boosters will be selling concession during the duration of the contest. Students who are wishing to purchase concessions will need to bring CASH to purchase items. No other form of payment will be accepted.
For those who have signed up to work the contest, we will have a meeting on Friday, February 1st to discuss job descriptions as well as set-up for the contest. This meeting is important to ensure that we are smooth sailing come Saturday morning. This meeting / prep will start at 4:30pm and will hopefully be done within an hour/ hour and a half. We will provide food after we are done setting up! Please meet in the band hall.
