Ban on Harvesting of the
George River Herd
In a concerted effort for wildlife preservation, the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee)/ Cree Nation Government has called for a ban of harvesting of the George River Herd. This coincided with a statement condemning the illegal harvest of Caribou by non-JBQNA beneficiaries.

Official Opening of the Piipiichaau Uchishtuun (Robin’s Nest) Women's Shelter in Waskaganish 
On November 20, 2018, the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay was joined by the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee)/ Cree Nation Government to open the First Women's Shelter in Waswanipi, Eeyou Istchee. Piipiichaau Uchishtuun (Robin’s Nest) will support essential services to Cree women in Eeyou Istchee.

Indigenous Justice Conference and the 10th Anniversary of the Justice and Correctional Services Department
On December 4-6, 2018, the Department of Justice and Correctional Services of the Cree Nation Government held its first Indigenous Peoples’ Justice - Reconciliation and Capacity Building Conference. You can learn more about the event and the celebration of 10 years of Cree Justice on our website.

Newly Elected Members of Board/Council  
As part of the elections in the Cree Nation of Waswanipi, we would like to welcome Chief Marcel Happyjack and Member Irene Neeposh to the Board/Council of the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee)/Cree Nation Government. Conference Working Together to Guarantee the Next Generation of Land Users
November 14th and 15th, 2018, the Cree Nation of Chisasibi hosted a conference "Working Together to Guarantee the Next Generation of Land Users."
  
The conference’s aim was to bring together representatives of all Cree entities, communities, and associations to exchange ideas on how we can work together to improve the lives of Cree Hunters and Trappers in Eeyou Istchee. This event brought together over 90 participants from the Cree Nation communities and employees from regional entities.

CHRD is rebranding under the new name Apatisiiwin Skills Development (ASD) on April 1st, 2019.
As part of a new strategic plan, focusing on the next 5 years of their organization, CHRD will be changing its department name to Apatisiiwan Skills Development. The change is outlined along with key highlights of their service delivery model, program delivery and departmental restructuring.
