Things to do: Check your #1 Farming Asset—YOU!

Staying healthy and safe is important in good times and trying times. The times when we least feel like looking after ourselves are when we need to do it the most.

The National Centre for Farmer Health has partnered with Agriculture Victoria to check the health of farm men, women and agricultural workers at Wimmera Field Days on 5-7 March 2019. Taking just 20 minutes, the farmer health assessments include a lifestyle survey covering health behaviours, farm practices and social and emotional wellbeing. Participants will also have their cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI and diabetes risk measured, and their eyesight tested.

Invest in the most important aspect of your agricultural business (YOU) with a FREE Health and Lifestyle Assessment at Agriculture Victoria site in the AgriBusiness Marquee.

Agriculture remains one of the most hazardous industries in Australia, with no significant reduction in worker fatality rates compared to other industries over the last decade. The majority of Australian farms are still family owned and operated, relying heavily on family members for labour. Attitudes and behaviours are often learnt from family members and can contribute to unsafe practices.

Since 2017, NCFH have delivered Gear Up for Ag™ programs at Longerenong College, Emmanuel College, RIST, SWTAFE - Glenormiston and Colac. Delivered in a workshop format, the program allows NCFH to engage students with interactive education on:
  • farm and ag hazards
  • strategies to change behaviours and improve health and safety practices

We are excited to be partnering with Rural Bank to deliver a Farmer Health Roadshow.  Kicking off the first roadshow in the Riverina, New South Wales on 2-4 April 2019 the program aims to support change across a number of communities through multi-generational health, wellbeing and safety activities.

Run over three days we will be providing communities with an opportunity to participate in Health and Lifestyle Assessments, engaging with agricultural students in our Gear Up for Ag Health & Safety program and providing education on the importance of health, wellbeing and safety through community presentations and workshops.

Stay tuned for more information on exact locations and times…this is sure to be something you don’t want to miss!
