Dear friends of FAYM

I am very happy to be serving as President of the board of Directors of FAYM. It will be a year of much learning for me, and I am sure it will be a good year for FAYM as well.

I thank you all for the support that you give to this effort.  It is most needed and appreciated!

Claudia Rivera, President

Share Your Love of Music With a
Deserving Youngster!

One of FAYM's  most important programs is its "Violins for Kids" project. Established in 2009 "Violins for Kids" provides instruments, materials, two to four class lessons each week, and a week-long summer day camp for underserved youngsters ages 10 -18. In just 10 years, enrollment has grown from 12 to 180 youngsters with plans for further expansion this year. But much of that expansion depends on you.

Your help is needed to grow this program to serve more "at possibility" youngsters. No gift is too small and ALL are most appreciated!

FAYM keeps administrative overhead at nearly zero. There is no paid CEO or office staff, and no office or classroom rental fees or utility costs. All administrative functions are performed by highly qualified volunteers. FAYM's legal, accounting, website and other services are generously donated 'pro bono' by experts in their fields.

CONTRIBUTIONS GO ENTIRELY FOR INSTRUMENTS, MATERIALS, STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS, AND TEACHERS' SALARIES.

Of those which one do you like the most? I prefer the Cello.

How long do been teaching music? I have been teaching for eight years.

How did you start? I started teaching privately and in the district since I graduated high school. Everything started as volunteer worker then eventually I started to get paid.

Tell us about an adult who inspired you to become a musician? My Middle School orchestra teacher (June Sakugawa) and my private teacher (Robin Reinarz). June was incredibly passionate and made me fall in love with music and Robin made me fall in love with the teaching process.

What are you working on with our students this semester? Group one is working on fundamentals. Group two is working on advance techniques.

What abilities would you like your students to have by the end of this school cycle? Group one should leave knowing how to read and play basic skills on the cello. Group two should leave knowing how to shift, vibrato, two octaves scales, and strong note reading and understanding of complicated rhythms.

Pollmann Double Bass for Sale

This Pollmann Double Bass crafted in 1974 is in beautiful condition and ready to play.

Preeminent concert bassist, Gary Karr, has played the instrument and says "It's one of the best Pullmanns I've seen, and I love it!"

The bass belonged to Catherine Pyke, a student of the late Audrey Bush who was Principal Bassist of the Utah Symphony & the LV Philharmonic. Ms. Pyke has gifted the bass to FAYM so that 100% of the sale’s proceeds will be used to fund the "Audrey Bush Memorial Scholarship" for exceptional students pursuing a music career in college.

A detailed history and specifications can be provided to serious inquirers.
