Help SA Lead the way and Say No to Single use Plastic
On January 13th the SA Government launched the Turning the Tide on Single-Use Plastic Products discussion paper. This seeks community and business views on ways to reduce the environmental impacts of plastic items frequently littered, such as coffee cups, straws and plastic bags.
South Australia is a national leader in recycling and resource recovery and a move to banning single-use plastics would take us even further maintaining South Australia’s national leadership in recycling and the transition to a circular economy.
The Consultation runs until 22 February 2019. The discussion papers are available at: www.yoursay.sa.gov.au
2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages
The International Year of Indigenous Languages is a United Nations observance in 2019 that aims to raise awareness of the consequences of the endangerment of Indigenous languages across the world, with an aim to establish a link between language, development, peace, and reconciliation. https://en.iyil2019.org/
In Australia, of the estimated original 250 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, only around 120 are still spoken. Of these approximately 90 per cent are endangered.
IY2019 is an opportunity to continue raising awareness and taking further actions to improve preservation and promotion of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages
Kaurna Language resources on the Web. This material will help you to learn or teach the language of the Aboriginal people of the Adelaide Plains

Are your ice-blocks environmentally friendly?
With the hot days of summer many early childhood services in Adelaide seek to give children something cold and icy. Plastic wrapped ice blocks that come in packs of 24 or more and seem to cost only a few dollars, are the choice of some services. Not only are these very environmentally unfriendly, single use plastic, they also have lots of stuff kids do not need sugar, food acids, flavours, colours and preservatives, and a big cost to the environment. Some Centres are choosing more expensive juice varieties with less of the nasties but still lots of plastic.
Ice cubes made with plain water are just as much fun, not as messy, almost free and easily replenished? If you are looking for a treat, freeze orange wedges or grapes; or blend strawberries to a pulp and freeze in ice block trays. No waste as rinds and leftovers can be composted.
Think sustainably and say no to single use plastic
