Dogs Day Out was great fun. The weather was beautiful- sun and warm at 20c. This was an opportunity of showing Christchurch dog owners that the "Red has turned into the Green Zone"
With so much 'consultation' around the post earthquake river precinct centered on 'what are we going to do with it', it has been largely forgotten that it is already delivering an enormous social dividend. The UK based MENE study (Monitoring Engagement in the Natural Environment) evidences that walking your dog is twice as popular as walking without a Dog. We live in that space and see it every day and night, in all weathers. That is why the announcement "Welcome to the WORLDS LARGEST URBAN OFF-LEASH DOG PARK" was made to a receptive audience by your advocate and Mayoral candidate Blair Anderson, just as the Breeze Walking Festival began.

Dogs don't understand *don't*, because *don't* is a concept.
Dogs understand *do*.
They understand behaviours.
Create a behaviour that you do want, so that your dog can be right and you're setting him up for reinforcement.
This makes for a much better relationship for you and your dog, and for anybody else who comes in contact with your dog.
