News and Reminders from Pleasant Hill Christian School.

January 25, 2019

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
  Psalm 51:10

Spelling Bee Winners:
Every January our school participates in the regional Spelling Bee!  Even though just 4-6th participate regionally, all the classes practice mini spelling bees and then come up with winners.  In Mrs. R's room, Lilly and Aurelia were the winners!  And going on to regionals, Tessa and Julian will represent PHCS with Izaac as a runner up!  We are so proud of all of these students and will give you more information as to when the regional Spelling Bee is soon!  C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S!

6th Grade leadership
In our 6th Grade Student Leadership class, students thought about how they would like to serve our school, and then were approved using Roberts Rules of Order ("I move that we vote on Riley being Vice President", etc.)  Thankfully, each class member was able to get the role he/she wanted.  Mrs. See is excited to see these students initiate events and projects and learn how to carry those projects through!  Here is your PHCS Student Government Team:
  1. President: Tessa
  2. Vice President: Riley
  3. Secretary: Chloe
  4. Treasurer: Ethan
  5. Sergeant at Arms: Mrs. See 😊

Parent Club Meeting!
This coming Friday, February 1st, Parent Club is going to rally the troops at an after school meeting.  You are invited to come and find out how to be a part of the spring events at PHCS!

Enrollment Meetings are NEXT WEEK!

If you haven't signed up for a time slot to meet with Mrs. See, please do so.  Here is the link! This is a required meeting so please call the office if you need to make an appointment outside of those timeframes.  2019-2020 is on the horizon and we have even more students for next year, for which we are singing God's praises!

Chapel
This week we had the pleasure of having one of our own parents share her family's story about missions in Romania!  Randall and Sammy Precup have a special place in their hearts for this European country as Sammy was born there!  Mrs. Precup shared pictures of the orphans in Romania as well as her trip as a 13 year old to share God's love with them.  She also shared how God softened her heart from being self-centered to others-oriented on that trip.  Our students land teachers even learned to say, "Jesus loves you" in Romanian!  Thank you, Mrs. Precup for sharing about a country in Europe that needs our support and prayers.

Orchestra Field Trip
On February 7, our school will go listen to the sounds of the Santa Rosa Orchestra down in the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University. Included in the orchestra is alumni Devon Bolt on flute! We will need some drivers, so please sign up on the permission slip coming home this week!  Make sure all your insurance information is on file and up to date in the office.

SAVE THE DATE: Pancake Breakfast fundraiser, Saturday, March 30, 2019. Sebastopol Community Church. More details to come!

Pancake Donations
Now that we have March 30th on our calendars for the Annual Pancake Breakfast, please let the office know if you or your business has any donations to auction off.  Every year, this event brings back alumni families and is a celebration of PHCS Community over the years!

History Day Presentations
Our 4-6th Graders have been diligently researching a history topic and creating posters, websites, and a variety of displays showcasing their efforts for the Annual History Day Projects.  You are cordially invited to come and tour the presentations on Thursday, January 30th at 1:30pm.  Students will be constructively critiqued by a few select adults so their projects can be even more refined by the time the County History Day competition rolls around.  Come see "academic excellence" in action as students proudly display their work!  4-6th graders who know how to cite their sources along with presentation skills are being prepared for the rigors of junior high and beyond!  Go PUMAs!

After School Piano Lessons with Miss Joy Byars has started Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30. Please call the office to get more information. Click here for more info.
