Happy 2019! The Friends of the Durham Library have big plans for the upcoming year.  We will be holding six Big Book Sales this year at Books Among Friends, our storefront in Northgate Mall. The first sale is this weekend, January 2- January 3. As usual, the first two hours of the sale will be open only to FODL members, so we hope to see you between 10:00 and 12:00 on Saturday morning (2/2). If you are unsure if your membership is up-to-date, we always have an updated list at the door. Additionally, you can now review and renew your membership through our new website FODLNC.org, For more details, see Amy's article below. Books Among Friends will we open to the public from 12:00 - 4:00 on Saturday, 2/2. The Bag Sale will be open from 1:00 - 4:00 on Sunday.
The other big announcement about the 2019 book sales is - we've reduced the prices on mass market paperbacks. They are now only 50¢. If you are unsure what a mass market paperback is versus a trade paperback, look for the signs posted around Books Among Friends and at the registers.

When you come to the Big Book sale this weekend, look for the special "bundles" of specially priced books on the book shelves near the registers. Also, we've recently received several boxes of interesting books written in Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese. Look for them in the Foreign Languages section.

One result of all your support in the last year has been our ability to fund new and innovative programs at the library in addition to the programs and scholarships we already provide the library. At our January board meeting, we approved five staff proposals for special projects that will occur in 2019. We are very excited about these programs and will bring you more information on them as they happen.

FODL Membership Goes Online
For the past several months, the membership and website committees of the Friends of the Durham Library Board have been hard at work creating an FODL website independent from the Durham County Library's Website, as well as working with our membership management partner Membee to bring FODL memberships online. By late December, the website was complete, and in early January, the FODL membership records were migrated into our new database. Notifications were recently sent to current members. Additionally, renewal notices and an option to renew online have been sent to Friends whose memberships expired in December and January, as well to those whose memberships will expire in February.

Members who have current, working email addresses should have received an email in early January with information about setting up an online membership profile. With this online profile, active members will receive automatic billing reminders, have an option to auto-renew memberships annually, and have an option to be part of the Patron Directory that will be posted on our website for those purchasing a Patron-level membership.

All emails and invoices from Membee will come from membershipFODL@gmail.com. If you have a current membership but didn't receive the email, check your junk mail, as some email clients may have settings that prevent the emails from reaching your inbox. If you didn't receive the email, or if you do not have an up-to-date membership, you can go to (WAITING FOR MEMBEE RESPONSE) to set up your account.

If you would like to purchase a new membership, or if you know your membership has expired and would like to renew it online, simply go to our New Membership page and choose the membership type you would like to purchase. You can create a new membership profile or update your existing one during the purchasing process.

We hope that our new website and online membership accounts will simplify the membership process for you. If you have comments, concerns or suggestions, you can submit them on our new webpage!
We value all our Friends of the Durham Library members, and we thank you for your contributions!

Do you prefer to pay for your book haul at the Big Book Sales with your credit card? When you are picking up a few books from the regional book sale shelves, would you like to pay for them with your debit card instead of using your ones and fives.  The Friends need your old phones so we can provide that service. If you upgraded your phone within the last year or so, please donate the old one to the Friends. As long as it can connect to our wifi, we can use it. Please contact FODLdonations@gmail.com for more information.
