Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing welcomes date announcement for Tesco Express re-opening
Tesco has announced that the Tesco Express store in Coppice Row, Theydon Bois, will reopen in early February.
The news has been welcomed by Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing who has been in regular contact with Tesco chairman John Allan regarding the progress being made over re-opening the store following a ram raid incident last October.
Raiders failed to get away with the cash machine and left villagers without their food store and post office with the building having to be propped up before the vehicle used in the ram raid and the ATM which was embedded in the rubble could be removed.
Tesco has told Dame Eleanor "good progress" is being made with a re-opening planned for early February.
The company, in a letter to the Epping Forest MP, added that the building was structurally sound with a fit-out of the interior ongoing.
Anti ram-raid bollards are proposed for the corner of the store with planning permission being sought from Epping Forest District Council.
Dame Eleanor said: "I am pleased Tesco are making good progress with regards to work at the Tesco Express store which has been a great loss to the village while it has been closed.
"I have been particularly concerned about older people and disabled people who have had to manage without the services of the Post Office.
"I am pleased that the store will soon be reopening and that an ATM facility will once again be available for customers."
