Wednesday January 30 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm

At The Mirabella's Willamette Hall, Capital Program Manager at the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) Steve Szigethy will give a presentation highlighting the Bureau's project work in the area.

Steve plans to talk about the progress of The SW Bond Avenue Extension project between Tilikum Crossing and SW River Parkway (north). This past October, PBOT's contractor McDonald Excavating completed the fill placement and retaining wall construction upon which the roadway will be built. Substantial completion of the Bond Avenue Extension north of Tilikum Crossing is anticipated in late summer 2019.

Additionally, Steve will provide an update about the Naito/Whitaker Pedestrian Crossing, a pedestrian hybrid signal (also known as HAWK signal) just west of I-5 that is nearing its final design. This long awaited crossing will allow South Waterfront residents to walk over the Darlene Hooley Pedestrian Street and Gibbs Street and then continue across Naito Parkway and Barbur Boulevard to access walking routes to OHSU Marquam Hill campus, VA Hospital, and Terwilliger Parkway. Final plans are anticipated later this winter with construction starting in summer 2019.

Steve will also address the recent traffic changes near OHSU's new CHH South building. Switching SW Curry Street to be one-way eastbound all the way from Macadam Avenue to River Parkway was necessary to handle morning peak hour traffic coming into the district without backing up onto Macadam, which is a State highway. New signals on SW Curry Street at Moody and Bond Avenues are also helping meet new travel demand associated with the new buildings. Residents of the Meriwether informed PBOT that the directional arrow pavement markings at Curry and River Parkway did not show a clear path for accessing their buildings. PBOT has issued a work order to remedy this situation.

Finally, Steve will share the latest available information about future projects in the South Waterfront, including improvements to the South Portal (Macadam/Bancroft intersection, Lowell Extension, Moody Extension) and the completion of Bond Avenue through the Zidell property.
