Today we are sending home progress reports to inform parents and families about their children's growth in the first half of the year. These reports will come home in student backpacks and will include progress information about all aspects of your child's life at school. You'll find a letter from me at the beginning of the progress report that I hope will provide some orientation of our report cards and what our marks represent.
Before sending them home, Ms. Thompson and I try to read as many progress reports as we can to better understand our students' successes and challenges. Reflecting on what I have read, I am proud of our the effort in this first half of the year as students have become stronger readers, writers, artists and mathematicians. I am also proud of their personal growth as responsible school citizens and caring community members.
I would like to thank the Muddy Brook faculty for their thoughtful and complete work on this term's progress reports. I would also like to thank our school secretary, Christine Kelly, for coordinating the collection, translation and distribution of progress reports. We had a tighter timeline this term, and it was a big job.

Free English Classes
Berkshire Community College offers a FREE English for Speakers of Other Languages Program to adults. The classes run from September through April and can be started whenever there is an opening. We offer three levels of classes; beginner, intermediate and advanced. We offer classes in Great Barrington (at BCC) from 9 am to noon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and classes at the Lee High School from 6 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. This is an opportunity for students to improve their English, be part of a supportive community, and work on their future goals. Free Tutors to Learn English
The Literacy Network of South Berkshire provides free, individualized, one-on-one instruction to adult learners, both immigrant and U.S. -born, in reading, high-school equivalency test preparation, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and citizenship test preparation. Our professional staff and trained team of volunteer tutors also offers generalized educational support and promotes access to a network of community resources through the power of literacy, education and advocacy. Our students and tutors usually meet for a minimum of one hour per week at a public location, such as the Lee Library, the Mason Library, or the BCC in Great Barrington.
