Hello Everyone…
These are really exciting times!
Our second Alpha course is starting on Monday 11th February at Scampton School (see separate notice for details). Then, on 31st March (Mothering Sunday), we are very excited that Bishop David of Grimsby will be coming for our Springline United Parish Service to be held at Scampton church. As a result, we are postponing the new Family Communion Service for a month, which will allow the children to receive their first communion from the Bishop.
This will be followed by a regular Family Friendly Communion on the third Sunday of the month at 4pm. Children need not be confirmed but be baptised to receive, and be of an age to understand what they are doing. If there are children interested please contact me (we are making arrangements for baptism during the Bishop's service, if needed).
Our Family Service this Sunday looks at the need to 'eat the biscuit' and the parable of the good football fan, so why  not come along and watch the story and its meaning unfold.

Rev. Sue Deacon (local minister)

PS: Please be encouraged to forward our Scampton Church Newsletter to your friends and family.
Family Service
Last month's family service was all about reflecting back on our achievements and answered prayers, but also looking forward with excitement at how and where God will lead us during 2019. If you missed the video review of last year you can watch it again - just click the play button below:
This month's service is all about eating and tasting the biscuit yourself....mmmmmm - sounds interesting and we are sure it will taste fantastic, especially as John Beverley is doing the talk, which is the parable of the good football fan!  To find out what it's all about you'll have to be there!

The Bat Box Is Empty!

A great big thankyou to Hazel who took the food to the Community Larder, which means the bat box is empty.
Lincoln community larder logoWe invite you to grab a tin from your kitchen cupboard, bring it to the family service, and then place it into the ('BAT BOX') at the back of church. We call it the Bring a Tin ('BAT') initiative.
We send the food to The Lincoln Community Larder whose aim is to provide basic food for people in crisis. They do this by issuing Larder Vouchers to a variety of agencies in the area who then refer people to them who are in need of assistance in the form of food. The larder provide 3 days worth of food for each person included on the voucher.
Lincoln Larder give advice about the best tins required by them here.

Wine Tasting Evening
Alpha is coming to Scampton
Here are some of the comments from the people who came on the 2018 course.
My weak faith is now much stronger;
I developed by gaining a better understanding of what Christianity is;
I now need to find out what’s right for me;
I've got a deeper understanding;
My faith has been strengthened and challenged;
I was tested by some of the questions;
I've got a desire to explore more faith issues;
I now want to delve deeper.
RAF Stained Glass Window - Update
The conceptual design has now been created by Claire Williamson Glassworks and is shown below. The design is a representation, and based on an aerial view of the runway at RAF Scampton with the Vulcan XH558, the BBMF Lancaster and the Red Arrows flying over it. The design has a header of the winged RAF badge which sits on the war graves in the churchyard and a footer of the RAF Scampton badge. This is a conceptual drawing and not the finished article. We invite your constructive feedback please to: rafwindow@scamptonchurch.org
There is still a lot of work to be done in these initial design and consultation stages but the support we have been offered so far is really encouraging. Here are some of the comments:

From the Battle of Britain  Memorial Flight
'We would be more than happy to support the project via social media posts.'

From the Royal Air Force Association
'Please send us a post for our Facebook page which has 76,000 followers and we can then comment and like it accordingly.'

From The Red Arrows Association
'We are very pleased to lend our name to the project as a non funding community partner. We will place your appeal on our Facebook page and our website. We wish you every success with the project.'

From 'Vulcan to the Sky
'We wish to help you, not only in visuals, but with funding promotions to help secure the money.
Will be happy to feature the story in our regular e-mail newsletters – as it is simply the right thing to do!'

Consultation with the Springline Church Council and the Diocese Advisory Committee will continue during the next few weeks.

New Family Communion Service
'Unstuffy, filled with joy, heartfelt prayers & inspirational music'
As Sue says in her opening to this newsletter, our NEW FAMILY COMMUNION SERVICE will build on the success and popularity of our monthly family service and will take a similar format.
ie. INFORMAL, INCLUSIVE, INTERACTIVE, FRIENDLY, FUN AND FREE!
It will be introduced on Sunday 31st March at our Mothering Sunday service, which will be presided over by the Rt. Revd. David Court, Bishop of Grimsby. It will then move to 4pm on the third Sunday of each month. This means that we will have two family services a month at Scampton that are modern, unstuffy, easy-going and family friendly.
We want children to be welcomed and valued equally, not excluded from this key element of worship; however, children must be 7 years or over and be Christened/Baptised. We also recognise the importance of teaching children about Christ's sacrifice. For this reason, prior to the first Children's Communion Service, there will be an informal and interactive session to teach children the meaning of Communion.

It's at 3pm on Sunday 17th February in church.

If you are interested please come along, or if you have got questions then give Sue a ring on 01522 730167
