 From the President

There are many obstacles to contend with when we want to create art such as time constraints, lack of focus, and maybe the biggest obstacle, the fear to try.  We're afraid to jump in and try new art techniques, afraid that our art isn't good enough, afraid to enter a show and the list goes on.  Those of us in WTWS are already ahead of the game.  You've committed to being a part of an art community where you can learn from others and grow together.  We are each at a different place in our art journey.  We have beginners, professionals, and every level in between.  Since joining WTWS I've not met anyone in our group that wasn't willing to help, guide, advise and encourage .  The benefits of being a member can help each of us on our art journey.

We have so much to look forward to between now and the end of May.  Gale and Karla have lined up some great programs at our regular meetings, the Art Festival in April, and our "PAINT IN" which is Saturday, February 2.  It will be  from 10:00 - 2:00 at the Legacy.  Our "PAINT IN" will be a time to get ready for the Art Festival where we have a booth as our fund raiser.   Bring your sack lunch, art supplies, and your ideas.  We will furnish the drinks and also a small canvas.  You might want to bring an additional gallery wrapped canvas as well.   Plan to come for a fun time.  Jo Beth will get us started and there will be others willing to help.  I look forward to seeing all of you!

CETA CANYON RETREAT
NOTICE DATE CHANGE and FEE CHANGE

This year our Ceta Canyon Retreat is March 17-22. It is a time to get away without the interruption of phones, family duties, etc.  You can paint daylight to dark - or sleep until noon.  It has trails to take daily hikes or plein air paint. It is very common to see deer wonder through the Canyon. Ceta Canyon is a large facility for painting and an updated lodge for sleeping, nothing fancy, but you don't go for luxury, just plenty of painting.  Everyone has their own room with bathroom and shower - a list of suggested supplies needed, emergency numbers, etc. will be sent to everyone after they have signed up.

Everyone works on their own - - at their own pace (water media only please).  There are no instructors, but we all learn so much from each other.   At the end of each day, we have critique time - you can participate or not - but it is a great opportunity to have other artists share their expertise with each other.

There is a four (4) day minimum required- this year it is $272 and for five (5) nights it is $340.  If you want to just pay for the four night but then decide to stay longer I can collect the rest at Ceta.

There is a $50 dollar deposit due February 15 made out to WTWS BUT SENT TO DYAN NEWTON 1211 1st Street Abernathy,TX 79311.  Total monies due MARCH 9th.  You must be a member of the West Texas Watercolor Society to attend, which I can collect at Ceta.

More information about Ceta or questions please contact Dyan Newton 806-470-3748
Do you have art supplies that you are not using and you would like to get rid of? Please consider donating them to the Guadalupe Community Center. The donations can be brought anytime we have a membership meeting or event. We've been doing this all along but most of our members don't know about it.

Meet Suzy ‘Pal’ Powell, this week’s top American Watercolor Weekly Ambassador! Living on the family farm in west Texas, Suzy has been painting for 30 years working in pastel, pencil, watercolor, gouache, acrylic and collage. She didn’t attend schools that taught art. Learning on her own in her backyard studio has allowed her to teach what she loves and enjoys, in Texas, New Mexico, Italy and in 2020 Poland and Italy..

“Veteran’s Day”: I took this photo in Fredericksburg, Texas, around the fourth of July. I love to paint old trucks and flags.
