Introducing my new podcast,
The Informed Life
Last week I launched a podcast: The Informed Life. The tagline explains what the show is about: better living through skillful information management.
All of us deal with information all the time, and most of us don’t learn how to manage it well. There are many stories in the media about what Facebook and Google and all these other companies are doing to our minds. But there isn’t as much information out there about what we can do about it individually. We’re not taught basic information management skills, or how to make use of complex information environments. In the absence of established frameworks, many of us develop strategies to help us cope.
As an information architect, I'm very interested in how people structure and manage their information ecosystems. How are they using information to their advantage? Do they use social media? If so, how do they get the best out of it without wasting time? How do they deal with communications over email and chat? How do they keep track of commitments? How do they keep their project-related documents together? I expect everyone does these things a little bit differently. I want to learn how people from different fields manage their information — both personally and professionally.
You can listen to The Informed Life on TheInformed.Life, by subscribing through Apple’s podcast directory, or by subscribing to the show’s RSS feed. (I’ll publish it to other directories over time.) The plan is for new episodes to come out every other week. I hope you join me in this exploration of better living through information.
