The powerful words from a brave leader, Dona Dijé
Known to her community as "Dona Dijé", Maria de Jesus Bringelo was one of the most important national leaders of the women babassu nut breakers movement in Brazil. She fought tirelessly to gain access to the Babassu coconut which the women have harvested for centuries and was instrumental in securing her communities land rights.
She sadly left us on September 14th, 2018. She will always be fondly remembered.
