Excellence in Painting...and People                 Done Right. On Site.
Those of you familiar with us here at Applied Colour know that our company is built on the strength of our relationships. Our sister company, Venger Electrostatic Coatings, believes the same. To that end, and given the new, social media / electronic era that we are immersed in, we wanted to continue developing relationships through a Quarterly Newsletter. But this won’t be your typical corporate newsletter - it will, instead, offer a few peeks behind the curtain, so to speak - a couple of tidbits in every issue that show a different side of Applied Colour and help you get to know Venger Coatings. We hope you like it and share it with your friends and family and, as always, your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Are the colours in your office space setting you up for SUCCESS?
Now more than ever we have become more aware of our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.  We are doing more and more to bring a balanced approach to our lives and putting self care on the top of our list.

Colour plays a big part in that!  Did you know colour has the ability to affect your mood, feelings and behaviours?

Colour Psychology is being used more and more in work spaces to boost morale, increase productivity and to create a more inviting and positive work environment.

"While perceptions of color are somewhat subjective, there are some color effects that have universal meaning. Colors in the red area of the color spectrum are known as warm colors and include red, orange, and yellow. These warm colors evoke emotions ranging from feelings of warmth and comfort to feelings of anger and hostility.
Colors on the blue side of the spectrum are known as cool colors and include blue, purple, and green. These colors are often described as calm, but can also call to mind feelings of sadness or indifference."

Venger. On Site.
In mid March our Venger crew was called out to a client location in Lethbridge to help fix a very costly problem! Upon installation of all the metal pieces sent over from the powder coating facility it was noted that the wrong colour was used!  There were 2 options....

1. uninstall all the metal and send it back to be re powdercoated or

2. call in Venger and have all the pieces recoated on site in the correct colour

Electrostatic painting is similar to powder coating in terms of finish and durability, however the electrostatic process allows us to colour match to any paint swatch. Powdercoating metal is restricted to a select group of colours and that's it, which proves to be difficult when designers have a certain colour palette in mind.

Change is inevitable but growth
is optional ~

reflections from Applied Colour BC
Look who came for a visit!
Michael McCarthy, General Manager of our
Victoria branch, flew in to attend the
2019 BOMA Awards Gala.
Applied Colour BC will be celebrating 3 years of being in Victoria BC in May. What an amazing journey! I have no idea who wrote the quote: Change is inevitable but growth is optional, however, I do know that taken at face value, it is absolutely true.

The most valuable lesson that I have learned on a personal level as well as a business owner is: “Things will not go the way you expect.” It’s one thing to have a desire and a dream. It is so important that we have goals to attain. These are the things that propel us forward. These are the purposes for us to accomplish, the reasons to get up in the morning and ‘put our pants on.’  Without a vision, the blind will lead the blind. Many times I have heard the phrase: ‘Fail to plan, plan to fail.’ The tricky part is... how does one plan, envision, desire and dream when things don't go your way? Both in the business world and personal world, ‘stuff happens.’ Things don't always go according to plan. As Robert Burns wrote: “The best laid schemes of mice and men go often askew.” Or as the Rolling Stones wrote: “You can’t always get what you want.” If I had a magic wand and a little pixie dust, with a wave and a sprinkle, every dream and good thing would come to pass. However, this is the real world and not Disney Land.

    Life can go sideways.

As stated, Applied Colour BC will be 3 years old in May. The ‘ideas’ of how and what I needed to do to fulfil my dream as a business owner are not the same as I first envisioned when first arriving here on the Island. The desire is still the same: “To partner with those that desire to leave people better than found.”  The way of accomplishing that desire is open to constant adaptation.

If there is one thing I have learned during this time it is this: If you want to accomplish much, be willing to give up much. Life does not care about your dreams or plans. It does not care about your hopes or emotions. Life just happens. Traffic jams happen. Jobs go sideways. Toast gets burnt. People let you down. You have two choices: accept and adapt or, resist and retreat.

The key to keeping your desires from floundering; your dreams from dying is knowing that: things will not always go your way. Expect failure. Expect dead ends. Embrace that. Do not be surprised by that. Realize that in order to accomplish your dreams and desires, you will have to be open, flexible, adaptive. When that is realized you will not be surprised and you will be able to adjust accordingly. You will grow. You will learn from the obstacles, and set backs. Hinderances and failures are a part of growth.

This past 3 years has been a lesson in ‘impermanence’. Nothing remains the same and if you are attached to ‘the way things are supposed to be’, then life will be hard.

Dream. Desire. Accomplish much. But... be open to learn, quick to accept and adapt.

Here is to another year of growth!

cheers,

Michael
We Work Hard & We Play Hard
With the Christmas season being such a busy time for our staff we like to celebrate together in early January.  This year we opted for a family friendly gathering and tried our hand at bowling.  It's always such a joy to meet the family that supports our crew.  It's all connected, if our staff is happy that flows into their home life and so on!
Rob, our General Manager, out did him self once again with little hand made trophies and fun prizes!
