[HCS PHARMA] Biomimesys Brain is ready (and we won lab'startup contest of FORUM LABO)
February 2019
We are very happy to announce the availability of our new matrix for 3D neuronal cells culture, BIOMIMESYS® Brain. We presented it at SLAS Washington thanks to the support of our partner Molecular Devices and it has been very well welcome ! We have also two more good news. First, we won the Lab’Start Up Village prize at Forum Labo Paris (see you there). Second, our CEO will be chairwoman of "Next Generation High-Content Bioimaging – Phenotypic Discovery" session at SLAS Barcelona. If you want to talk, submit your abstract now! !
This hydroscaffold is suitable for neuronal cell culture. We tested it for two cell lines: SH-SY5Y cells, commonly used for pharmaceutical research, and LUHMES cells (dopaminergic neurons). Cells grow and form spheroids with intra and inter-spheroidal neurites.
Extracellular matrix (ECM) is known to have an influence on physiological processes and on tumour progression: ECM properties (composition, stiffness) modulate cell proliferation, migration, invasion and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
Many news have been published since 2 or 3 years about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning / Deep Learning use in picture analysis. Lastly, Microsoft published an astonishing article where they explained that this technology is so powerful that the government needs to regulate it, especially for face recognition. In HCS Pharma we are deeply involved in picture analysis and we have worked on these technologies with the help of our partners (TISBio Lille, Molecular Devices, agence dad) since 2017.
Last week we attend the 19th “Journées Européenes de Dermocosmetologie”. This year symposium was about “Intercellular exchanges in cutaneous tissues: which prospects in dermocosmetology for fragile skins ?” and we were very impressed by the top tier works we have seen there! We have met academics and industrials who are working on the comprehension of the skin physiology, and developed innovative skin models.
Large number of visitors came to Cosmet’agora last week to discover the last innovations in cosmetic formulation. It was a great opportunity to discuss with leader companies developing active ingredients and to feel emerging trends in the cosmetic market: microbiota balance preservation and chronobiology in particular.
Terrasso et al. published a study about a neuroprotection assay on a 3D model in 2017. They developed a 3D co-culture of neurons and astrocytes by means of an agitation-based culture system. Then they evaluated the neuroprotection potential of 36 compounds in pre-incubation, co-incubation and post-incubation over an oxidative injury induced by tBHP, compared to an antioxidant, Idebenone (positive control).
