A Message to You from the

January 28, 2019
Greetings, Friends!

January is such a busy time of year, what with all the pruning, mulching before the wind blows it all away again, and all the garden planning. So I will keep this short.

I have been doing some research on perennial seeds and their individual requirements for germination.

I was going to just share my list of seeds that need cold stratification (and of course, there are many more; these are just ones I'm working with) - but then the more I dug into it, the more I appreciated how many different ways plants have developed to increase success of their offspring. By the same token, humans have come up with all kinds of creative ways to jumpstart the germination process.

To read more, go to Perennial Seed Germination Made Complicated (or rather easy). It's not too late to get them started!
Want to cut the chatter and just go to the list? Seeds that Like Cold Stratification (I get that)

I am headed back outside. I'm working on the cane fruits today while the weather stays in a pleasant mid-40 range, which is so very mild for the end of January.

Need Willows?  Am also cutting the willows, so if you are interested in cuttings, willows for basketry or other projects, new shoots for making your own willow water, and live close by, feel free to contact me. I grow several varieties of basketry types - but I don't have the kind that make large catkins for flower arrangements (which sounds so very tempting, but I really have to stop buying plants!)

All for now - hope this finds you well - and happy sprouting!
Blythe
