Show Your Shark Love -2019 is the Year of the Blue Shark
Once the most common pelagic sharks globally, 20 million Blue shark(Prionace glauca) are being killed for their fins each year and this large shark is now the most common species in the shark fin trade. Once thriving in all tropical and temperate oceans including coastal California, populations are plummeting and these beautiful and important sharks will disappear without our intervention. Rob Stewart's Legacy Lives On. Sharkwater Extinction Opens Ocean Film Festival

In 2006 Sharkwater opened the world's eyes to the threats to sharks caused by shark finning. The film motivated activists to rise up and fight shark finning and the devastating shark fin trade. In 2017, the Sharkwater team continued the cause with the production of Sharkwater Extinction. Tragically, Rob died in a diving accident while filming, but his family and team finished the film to continue the fight to save sharks. Join us for opening night at International Ocean Film Festival, San Francisco March 7. The festival has four days of ocean films, including our 12th annual shark films, followed by a panel on sharks Saturday, March 9. Learn More
