The December 28, 1888 edition of the Solid Muldoon newspaper described "Christmas in the Hills" as celebrated by employees of the Yankee Girl and Guston mines at the latter's boardinghouse. The party included a huge Christmas tree and was attended by 125 people ... The management of Guston Mine apologized for not inviting the general public, but there wasn't any possible way to squeeze more people into the boardinghouse.
