Sunrise Photos on Display at the Sausalito Library
|
|
Every morning since January 1, 2015, with only two exceptions, Julie Myers has gotten up early to take a photo of the sky at sunrise. Most days, she takes the photo during a walk with her dog Quincy to a waterfront park near her home in Richmond.
Julie says, "I started the project right after I lost my job and needed a reason to get up and get out of bed every morning. I decided to keep going after I got a new job in July 2015 as the City of Sausalito's Recreation Supervisor for Special Events. After one year, I decided to try for a thousand days. Once I hit a thousand, I just couldn't stop."
Seventy of Julie's favorite sunrise photos are currently on display on the walls of the Sausalito Library during open hours through February 16. Of the two days that she missed, Julie says, "I missed one when Quincy got sprayed by a skunk, and once I just plain forgot." (Reprinted from 1/18/19 Sausalito Currents)

THIS WEEK: A recent New York Times article, Stuck and Stressed: The Health Costs of Traffic, notes that according to one study, "commuting is one of the least pleasant things we do."
Why only ponder traffic while you're stuck in traffic? At the end of your day unwind and re-live the twists and turns of your commute with this collection of books and movies devoted to stories of commuting, cars, bikes, bus rides, revenge, and more.
Maybe you'll find the answer to the ageless question posed by author Tom Vanderbilt: "Why does the other lane always seem to be moving faster?" (Courtesy of Kerry Nelson)
