Greetings Champions and Advisors:
I recently attended a small gathering hosted by EVICS. Three donor couples attended along with the executive director and me. This was a nice sized group. The director had two couples turn down an invitation to attend – don’t give up – keep inviting until you get a group. -Kent

FORMAT:
- Introductions as the donors arrive
- Wine and cheese were served
- The executive director updated everyone on the impact the organization was making
- I asked donors why they thought the mission was important to our community. (This gets them thinking about what THEY value...)
- Introduction of EVL; shared EVL brochures (Gifts By Will or Trust)
DISCUSSION
I spoke in simple terms about different types of planned gifts, but mostly spoke about bequests (the most common type). This led to a good discussion on the importance of having an updated will. Two couples mentioned they need to update their wills, and how easy it is to do this. There was little discussion of other planned giving methods, though there was some interest in the IRA minimum required distribution.
FINALLY...
I introduced the Fall River Society and passed out our brochures. I emphasized that the Fall River Society is an opportunity to encourage other planned gifts within our community.
  • One Uncovered Gift (they just sent in their Fall River Socity Paperwork!)
  • One couple committed to include the organization when they updated their will.
Plan a small gathering with your donors.
Invite Kent.

EVL will re-imburse up to $100 in expenses for your gathering.

It was a really easy thing to do; EVL and Kent do all the heavy lifting!  My job was just to invite people to be here!  I look forward to doing it again at some point this year.
