3 stories worth sharing this week:

  1. The ‘Winter Friday’ Off Is Now a Thing
"Summer Fridays" have long been popular in segments of the creative industries. Now, some companies are experimenting with Winter Fridays, giving their employees Friday afternoons off to spend time with family, observe religious ceremonies, or travel. The World Wildlife Foundation, meanwhile, has "Panda Fridays" every other week year-round, to help improve employees' work-life balance while reducing their carbon footprint. Could this be part of the gradual shift towards four-day work weeks? [NY Times, 3min]
  2. What Clayton Christensen Learned After 25 Years Studying Innovation
25 years after his first book, The Innovator’s Dilemma, Clayton Christensen still thinks that the best answers to the enormous problems we are struggling with always starts with asking the right question. His next 11 books has always started with his desire to answer a simple, but perplexing question. The Innovator’s Dilemma asked: Why do great firms fail, especially at the hand of smaller and less resourced upstarts? The answer: Disruptive innovations. More recently, he asked what may be the most important question yet: Where does lasting prosperity come from? The answer: Market-Creating Innovations. [LinkedIn, 9min]
  3. Cognitive Bias Cheat Sheet - Because Thinking Is Hard
A list of 20 unique biased mental strategies that we use for very specific reasons. Every cognitive bias is there for a reason — primarily to save our brains time or energy. If you look at them by the problem they’re trying to solve, it becomes a lot easier to understand why they exist, how they’re useful, and the trade-offs (and resulting mental errors) that they introduce. Cognitive biases are just tools, useful in the right contexts, harmful in others, so we might as well get familiar with them. [Medium, 12min]

A quote I'm thinking about:

“The real voyage of discovery consists, not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

Marcel Proust
