In the meantime, if you know any Brethren who are not currently receiving the newsletter, but would like to, please click here where they can sign up in less time than it takes to put on a pair of gloves!

As always, if anyone has any news or events they would like featured in the newsletter or on the website, please click here to send me all the relevant details.

Yours sincerely and fraternally,

W Bro Terry Mitchinson

Members of Tring Lodge No 5001 with their latest Initiate, Bro Joshua Day

A Very Special Meeting for Tring Lodge

Tuesday, 22 January was a special day for Tring Lodge No 5001 – the Worshipful Master, W Bro Beej Parmar vacated the Chair to enable W Bro Tony O’Connor to Initiate his grandson, Bro Joshua Day, into Freemasonry. He was ably assisted in doing so by W Bros Dermot Doherty and Brian Miles and Bro Ray Uren.

Bro Day had, in fact, recently been awarded a BSC Honours Degree in Physical Geography which was made possible, in part, by a grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation. During his interview for membership, Bro Day had thanked the MCF for the grant and stated it was his intention to give something back to Freemasonry.

The occasion was all the more significant for W Bro O’Connor, who was presented with an engraved glass tankard by the Worshipful Master in recognition of his being Initiated into Freemasonry 50 years ago; almost to the day (it was actually the day after their meeting)!

If this was not enough, on the Second Rising Provincial Grand Charity Steward, W Bro Chris Noble presented the Worshipful Master with a Certificate of Vice Patronage, in recognition of Tring Lodge’s support of the Provincial 2019 Festival. This was accompanied by a Steward's jewel for the Worshipful Master himself.

To complete the evening, Lodge Tyler, W Bro Wally Randall (who, at 103, must be one of Masonry’s oldest Tylers), rounded off the Festive Board with a perfect rendition of the complete Tyler’s Toast; closing what had been a very special evening for all involved.

Taking Care of Your Prostate

Are you aged 40 or over and do you know the health of your prostate? Don’t know? Then why not come along to the Halsey Masonic Hall, Watford on Saturday, 30 March between 11 am and 2 pm where the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust, who support prostate cancer awareness and early diagnosis through PSA testing, in conjunction with the Provincial Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Chapter of Hertfordshire, are offering free advice about prostate health and complimentary prostate testing. The tests only take 20 minutes (subject to availability) and there is free parking and complimentary tea available. Given that prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and affects 1 in 8 of us, it can’t hurt to come along and find out more.

New Members' Social

Following last year’s very successful inaugural New Members’ Social, the Provincial Grand Lodge of Hertfordshire once again cordially invites those who have recently joined Freemasonry to join them for an afternoon of socialising (and finger food).

The goal of the afternoon is to give any interested Entered Apprentices, Fellow Crafts or Master Masons (in fact, any Brethren who have joined within the last two years) an opportunity to find out more about the organisation and the Province and to meet some of personalities that are involved in the running of our ‘Happy Hertfordshire’.

Guests will be invited to listen to a series of short addresses from the Provincial Grand Master, as well as the Provincial Grand Almoner and Charity Steward, the Fleet House Light Blues Club and the Masonic Sport Association. After the addresses, a finger buffet will be served; providing the perfect opportunity for everyone to have a conversation and get to know each other.

There are two New Members’ Socials currently planned so you can choose the one most convenient for you. The first will be on Sunday, 2 June at The Cloisters in Letchworth Garden City and the second at Mayflower Place, Hertingfordbury on Sunday, 30 June. Both events will run from 12pm-3.30pm

Tickets for the events cost £10 per person and guests are encouraged to invite their partners and children along too. Tickets can be purchased by clicking the links below:

Sunday, 2 June at The Cloisters, Letchworth Garden City
Sunday 30, June at Mayflower Place, Hertingfordbury
The Essex Cornerstone Lodge will be Consecrated on Saturday, 2 March 2019

Essex Cornerstone Consecration

On Saturday, 2 March the Essex Cornerstone Lodge No 9968 will be Consecrated in the Grand Temple at Freemasons’ Hall in London. As a sister organisation to the Essex Cornerstone Club, the Fleet House Light Blues will be taking a contingent to offer their support and take advantage of this rare opportunity to see a New and Young Masons Club form a Lodge and in the best possible setting.

Any members of the FHLBC (or, indeed, any Brethren) can find out more about the event and book their places by clicking here
