DOWNWIND Paddling Getaway 2020
Hi paddlers,
We just wanted to give you a quick heads up about our DOWNWIND Paddling Getaway, which will run early next year in Victoria and New South Wales. We are starting to plan, advertise and book our Getaways further in advance (up to one season ahead) to give participants time to prepare and make the most of each experience.
Two weeks ago we ran a Great Ocean Paddle Getaway on the Victorian Surf Coast, where 15 participants were coached & mentored in a combination of conditions they had never taken on before. During the trip they developed skills, confidence, camaraderie and learnt to adapt & thrive in different open water environments. Our group included a huge range of experience levels...from open water novice to established & competitive paddlers...with participants from 3 different States. On race day 10 of our 15 participants started the event, 7 of these for the very first time. Every starter completed the course, with 8 making the podium in their age and craft category. Every single participant on the trip improved their paddling and left with new knowledge, inspiration, goals, memories, friends & practical approaches to take their paddling to new levels in the future.
This Getaway wasn't just about racing...far from it. We used the race as a bonus, with the main emphasis being on accessing new areas and supporting each other as we got a feel for this impressive stretch of coast. Personally, the most fun conditions we've experienced in the last 12 months came the day before the Getaway while doing a recce paddle, and the biggest conditions we've experienced in the last 12 months came on the first day. It was an absolute hoot!!
