Please note that there is no regular training or Little Sticks this Sunday 17th February as this is the half term break. Some of the squads may be organising practises on this day, but players will be advised separately if this is the case. We will be back to normal on the 24th February.

ENGLAND HOCKEY CAMPS/MATCHES
Congratulations to six Canterbury players who will be heading to Lilleshall, the England Hockey training base camp, during half term next week - Joshua Izzard and Oliver Weston for the EH Diploma in Sports Excellence (DiSE) camp, and Adam Lee-Browne (U18), Jamie Tritton (U16), Aimee Plumb (U18) and Robyn Thompson (U18) for NAGS camps including matches against Ireland. This will be Adam's first England cap.
Congratulations to you all, a fantastic achievement.

MATCH REPORTS - BUMPER EDITION!
We had 16 teams out and about this weekend playing (mostly in the rain!) - average that out at 9 players a team and that is a whopping 144 children representing Cantebury Hockey Club on one day - that is a lot of 'green and white army' out there giving their all, exercising, socialising, competing and generally having a great time.
These match days 'don't just happen' - a big thank you must go to all the Coaches, Managers, Umpires and parents who put so much into the season at CJHC. Thank you!

U8 Triangular at Herne Bay - COUGARS
Cougars started their fixtures against BBHC who defended resolutely to keep the Cougars at bay to earn a 0-0 draw. Next up was the Canterbury Pumas and with both sides in white and a lack of bibs, the Cougars kindly offered to play in their alternative strip which consisted of their winter coats or as many jumpers/tracksuit tops as possible to help keep the cold out! Another good performance wasn't quite enough to keep the Pumas from scoring with the game ending as a 3-0 loss.
Cougars then went up against the Canterbury Leopards and this time lost 2.0. The final game was against Herne Bay where the Cougars despite their very cold hands were determined to score their first goals of the day. A dominant attacking display duly obliged with the Cougars coming out 2-0 victors with both goals coming from Howie Baker.
A good performance throughout the morning in difficult conditions and special mention should go to Annabel Lucas, Isobella Palmarini, Lydia Keir and Howie Baker for their performances.

U8s Triangular at Herne Bay - PUMAS
With the weather not our friend for the second fixture in a row Canterbury Pumas had to just keep running to keep themselves warm! With a total of 9 goals for and none against it was a very successful morning. The Pumas played 4 games against Herne Bay and BBHC and I was very grateful to all those willing to play for the opposition to make up the numbers for all the teams.
There was definitely some progression from the last triangular at Maidstone and the players were able to tell me what they were going to work on in the matches which was great! There was some lovely passing play, some really great tackling and a lot of hard work by everyone and a very happy (if a little cold) coach at the end of the morning.
Well done to all the Pumas and looking forward to the next matches.

U8 Triangular at Herne Bay - LEOPARDS
It was a wet rainy day at Herne Bay hockey club with two new teams to face. Once the combination to the padlock for the pitch was found and we could get in. The young Leopards started to feast on their opponents from the start. 3 lovely goals from Mael Rory and Orlando put the game to bed.
Match 2 was a bruising encounter against our fellow Canterbury Cougars. With two facial injuries and some last ditch defending from the Henry and Rosie in goal. It was Orlando who popped up with the winner.
Match 3 was a similar affair to the first lots of shots some better passing. Leo and Maiya were getting more and more involved. It was Mael Rory and Orlando who were on the score sheet again.
Match 4 was seen as a final as the Canterbury Pumas had won all their games. Unfortunately the leopards couldn’t produce the same performance as they had throughout the tournament. A 2-0 loss to a good Canterbury side, it could have been more but Rosie did have an outstanding game in goal.
Well done to everyone who played.
A special mention to Holly and Orlando for their bravery when being hit with stick and ball. Two tough cookies and certainly ones to watch for the future.

U10 Boys at Wimbledon
TIGERS
The boys arrived at a cold and dreary Wimbledon but bacon butties soon raised the spirits. The Tigers started brightly against Wayfarers working the ball forward well to pile on the pressure resulting in a well taken goal by Louis to win the match 1-0.
Next up was a well organised Wimbledon side and their numbers included a goalkeeper. The boys continued to play well and made it into the opposition’s goal on numerous occasions however they just couldn’t find the back of the net. The no score draw was not reflective of the pressure the boys placed on the opposition.
Following a two game break the boys were next to face Marlow. Again a fairly even game with the Tigers finding the back of the net illusive; the lack of a goal keeper being the key difference between the teams as Marlow managed to break through the defence to score a single goal, result an unlucky 1-0 loss. Next up was a sterner challenge against Wimbledon A. A well organised side restricted the Tigers play with the play narrowing and Tigers struggling to find the width , despite some good defending the opposition’s strength showed and a 2-0 loss was the result, certainly respectable against an A side.
The team worked hard throughout the day and there were periods of good passing moves and some sterling defensive work. All in all a respectable performance by the Tigers, some work to do before the tournaments to come but some real promise shown by the team. Well done to all the boys and thanks to the parents for travelling the distance to Wimbledon it was certainly worthwhile as the opposition were stronger and that is invaluable experience for the boys in the lead up to the tournaments in the latter stages of the season.

LIONS
The lions started very strongly with a 5-0 victory against London Wayfarers which set up the day nicely. Next up was Wimbledon A team, who gave the boys a good challenge. Ben Beatty was tested a few times, but kept the Wimbledon forwards at bay. With the team growing in confidence they scored two goals and could have gone on to score more but for some good defending by the opposition, final score 2-0.
Up next with a slight rejig of the team, the Lions faced Marlow A’s. With lessons learnt from the first game, the boys used the width to create some lovely attacks, scoring 3 times in quick succession without any response from Marlow. Final game the boys faced Wimbledon B’s and again raced into a 3-0 lead. Again more chances kept coming our way but to no avail, final score 3-0.
Another excellent performance from the boys today, playing some exceptional hockey throughout the tournament and for scoring 2 goals from short corners - an area we have been developing.

U10 Boys Tunbridge Wells Tournament
It was a rainy morning at Tonbridge School, but the Canterbury Pumas were in good spirits, reunited with friends from previous fixtures.
The Pumas got off to a flying start, beating the Tunbridge Wells 1 team 3-0. There were two goals from Heath and a superb one from Aidan latching on to a bouncing cross from right wing and firing it first time past the goalie.
Next we faced Holcombe in a game which the Pumas dominated, launching attacks down the right and pressurising their defence. Arthur finally put one past their goalkeeper who had made repeated saves to keep Holcombe in the game. The final score was 1-0.
After a short break the Pumas faced Tunbridge Wells 2. An early goal from Heath took the pressure away and this was followed by goals from Aidan and Arthur. The final score was 3-0.
In the last game the Pumas faced Tunbridge Wells 3. The Pumas took a lead with goals from Ben and Arthur, but conceded a penalty goal in the final minutes. The final score was 2-1.
The defensive trio of Ali, Myles and Tom had an outstanding tournament, with the “metal wall” around our D rarely breeched, and a single goal conceded all morning.
The midfield of Aidan, Piers and Ben dominated the game, battling tirelessly in support of both the defence and the attack, and passing the ball wide at the first opportunity.
Up front, Heath and Arthur were a threatening presence with attacks launched at speed down the wings, well hit crosses and great positioning in front of goal. All opposition teams had goal-keepers who were constantly challenged.
Overall boys scored 9 goals and conceded one. Goals were scored by Heath (3), Arthur (3), Aidan (2) and Ben.
With their robust defence and a great display of attacking hockey the Canterbury Pumas were deserved tournament winners.
Man of the match goes to Heath for his hard work and poise in front of goal.

U10 Girls at Wimbledon
On a cold and potentially very wet day, the girls under 10 team travelled to Wimbledon to play the best opposition so far. With a few players being swapped around, the A team took on Marlow, Wimbledon and Wayfarers in an epic competition. They took a while to settle down and despite some excellent hockey they unfortunately lost their 1st match 1-0.
But from then on and a few tactical changes the team took on a whole new lease of life and were scoring goals like they eat sweets.
Ava, in goal, showed dominance and ferociousness of her circle and pulled off some great saves and even kicked the ball so hard it went straight to our centre forward who scored within 5 secs.
The defence made up of Freyja, Tempe, and Issy showed some excellent understanding and were able to keep the ball out of the circle, even if they did occasionally take it in to their own D, whilst coach Moi had her eyes closed.
Midfield was made up of Rosie and Phoebe who created great opportunities to create space for attacking play to happen. Up front the notorious Holly and Lottie, were a partnership made in heaven, one passes and other scores and Vice versa. Both of them slotted some excellent goals in the back of the net. The girls won all 5 of the other games and won one by 6-0.

U10 Girls Triangular at Herne Bay
U10 Girls A team
Canterbury U10 girls turned up to a new pitch for most. This confused Stu (the coach) who initially turned up at the wrong venue. Not his best start!
Despite the monsoon type weather with slight arctic feel to the wind the vast majority of players turned up. However, we were 1 less player.
Despite this, the girls put up a fantastic fight. The only game we lost was our first game. There was some fantastic defence shown and some brilliant counter attack played all morning. The girls soon realised that maybe, despite his lack of hair, coach Stu's idea of blasting up the wings worked well. This we used to our advantage convincingly winning 2 games 3-0. All the girls played extremely well. The best I have seen most play all season.
My player of the triangular for Canterbury has to go to Olivia Ridge who scored the most goals and happily took on Herne Bay's GK without reservation.

U10 Girls B team
The u10 B girls, with numbers seriously depleted through toe fractures (just a minor occurrence in Hockey) and a couple of cases of projectile vomiting (get well soon girls) meant we arrived with a bare 6 girls for a 7 a side tournament. Luckily the Canterbury A team were stood fairly close by and Elena was swiftly moved across to the B team to shore up their numbers (thanks Elena and Dad).
It was totally Arctic but as usual Didi was sat there, dressed for summer, wondering what everyone was complaining about (that girl is made of hardy stuff!).
We were never going to win with a scratch team of only 7 playing out of position against strong teams with strength in depth but the girls all played their socks off, narrow losses and missed chances being the order of the day. The girls improved all day and I know that it will all come right very soon and we'll see their true potential.
Molly Holgate was my player of the day. Running tirelessly and getting stuck in. She even tried to header a ball and shrugged it off with barely a whimper.
For the connoisseur of the bacon butty, Wimbledon provides 4 yes FOUR rashers per sandwich! A variety of bread options (this just served to confuse me) and even the choice of having it toasted!
For parents travelling to these far flung venues, your support for your children and the club on cold days is much appreciated.
Well done girls, enjoy half term and a Sunday off for you all.

U12 Girls triangular at Polo Farm
Despite illness depleting team numbers significantly early Sunday morning, Canterbury U12 girls still managed to field four strong teams against Ashford, Gore Court and two Herne Bay sides. There were no subs in any of the teams so there was no time for being injured or tired!!! All the girls showed an impressive level of commitment throughout the morning playing five games each. Some girls even played for two teams where we were short.
All four teams demonstrated a passing game where they used the full width of the pitch. It was a great to see attacking play, where in the past we have struggled to score due to tentativeness in the D, today there were goals galore for the Canterbury sides. Notable improvements were that free hits were taken early catching the opposition off guard. The determination and never give up attitude from all the girls shone through resulting in the Canterbury Lions and Panthers winning the triangular with 4 wins and 1 draw each

Tigers: 2 wins, 2 loses, 1 draw
Panthers: 4 wins, 0 loses, 1 draw
Lions: 4 wins, 0 loses, 1 draw
Well done girls - all that hard work in training is paying off. Thanks must go to all coaches, time keepers and referees for making the morning run so smoothly.

U12 Girls Triangular at Marden
Two Canterbury girls U12s teams went to Marden to play in a triangular against Marden and Ashford this Sunday. It was cold and windy but the all the girls went into their first games full of energy. Team 1 played first against Marden Apples. It was a tricky opening game but they ran out clear winners at 2-0 with Lucy Carter opening the scoring from open play and then Lucy Gotke putting away a well worked penalty corner. Team 2 up next playing Ashford 1. A tough game but they all battled from 1-0 down to come back and earn a draw 1-1 with an open play goal from Kate Boffey.
Next up was the two Canterbury teams against east other! GK Neave Jeffrey-Fox was left with a dilemma of which team to play for so she played for both – half a game each! Both teams battled so hard and they were all outstanding in their commitment and passion to play passing hockey and win the game. The 3-0 score line to team 1 doesn’t reflect how the close the game was (goals scored with no defending goalie).
Team 2 then played Marden Apples which was a close game coming from 0-1 down to clinch the win in the last minute 2-1 (Kate Boffey and Issy Kitson scoring).
Team 1’s final pool game was against Ashford 1 and the girls knew it was going to be a tough match. Neave made some important saves at the back and there was tireless work at the back from Matilda Mariner and Lucy Gotke, lots of hassling and running from the midfield Eleanor Griffon and Scarlett Fletcher and excellent skills and attacking play from Lucy Carter, Poppy Gault. The end-to-end game was exciting and dramatic but all the effort and teamwork paid off and they got the win 1-0. Team 1 were unbeaten.
Canterbury team 1 took 1st and team 2 took 2nd place. A final match was played just to give the girls an extra game but Canterbury came away from Marden with some truly fantastic hockey under their belts and two very happy coaches!
Team 1 player of the day was Poppy Gault for her continuous hassling to get the ball back, running hard to be in all the attacks and her amazing work rate! Issy Kitson was Team 2 player of the day for her utter commitment to the team and exceling in defence and attack.
Thank you to Chris Carter for being our umpire and to all the parents for supporting us all on such a cold day.

U12G's vs U14G's Indoor Matches
U12 Girls Report
Coaches Nigel and Hugo faced each other again in another epic battle of the girls during our second round of friendly indoor matches last Wednesday. With different teams on the 'pitch' it was all to play for and both sides were keen to get going. So after a slight delay to set everything up, we organised the teams,
Charlie was quickly trained up in electronic substitution and the girls were off! With Freya and Lucy playing well upfront and Darcy Kerrell and Maddie Leech solid in defence alongside the trusty Jacob in goal we soon took our first goal and won our first match 1-0. Confidence was running high for the U12G but the U14G were keen to fight back so the second match saw us 1-1 with just a few minutes to go. Scarlett, Kate and Abi passed well in midfield with Lucy tucking our final goal in to win the second match 2-1.
Our final match begun and you could see the determination on everyones faces, the U14G were out of the blocks quickly but Jacob made some excellent saves to ensure we stayed in the match. Poppy and Dana drove the ball forward using the sides well and eventually we delivered our first goal then another but the girls were getting tired now. In the final minutes the U14G showed their stamina knocking in 3 goals to make the final score 3-2 to them.
An amazing performance by all and huge well done to all our players. Thanks to Nigel for coaching Charlie and the girls as well as Chris Carter and Shane Godwin for umpiring.

U14 Girls v Spencer
Firstly a big thankyou to U12 Boys goalkeepers, Jacob Beer and Daniel Luckhurst, who came from Men's 1st XI ball patrol to play at short notice. Top lads!
Canterbury started quickly against Spencer's touring team and our first meaningful attack resulted in an Evie Lewis goal after an accurate pass from Sophie Wain inside the D.
Three minutes later, Lorna Forbes threaded a pass down the middle of the pitch to Grace Patterson who in turn released Poppy Ladd to break through and score the second goal by skillfully dribbling around the goalkeeper.
Canterbury continued to apply pressure winning two short corners in succession. Beth Langdale obliged with some accurate injections; the first resulting in Chloe Plumb hitting the post with a reverse stick strike, the second struck firmly into the bottom right corner for our third goal.
Spencer then started to create some ball possession of their own but their advances down the wings were well intercepted by Hannah White and Georgie Hawken.
Canterbury turned up the pressure once more through Jess McCully and Olivia Brooks-Merino feeding clever passes to the forwards. By half time both Poppy and Evie had earned hatricks by pouncing on any rebounded shots and the scoreline was looking a healthy 7-0 lead.
The second half allowed our girls the comfort of restructuring the team formation to promote more passing and control in their game. Lucy Gardiner kick started the next positive wave of attack where Grace found herself in a good position with her shot took an added deflection which looped over the keeper into the net for another home goal.
A further two slick short corner routines between Beth and Chloe ramped up the final score to a comprehensive 10-0 win.

U16 Girls Home Counties League vs Tulse Hill & Dulwich
The U16s travelled to South East London to play in a home counties match against Tulse Hill & Dulwich HC, and the points in the league table were looking very close so it was a game we needed to win.
Within 10 minutes we were 2-0 up with great goals from Issy Mount and Hannah Harvey, so we started the game off well. We kept up the pressure and were rewarded with three more goals from Flora, Tilly and Channice in the first half.
Our defence did a fantastic job, giving the opposition no chance in the first half to get near our goal. And our midfields and forwards were working well together, with great passing between them.
After a quick team chat, we were ready for the second half, but so were they. They had 4 shots on goal, all of which Ashleigh saved. We went on to score four more goals, three from Tilly, and one in the final minute of the match where we were given a short corner - scored by Sofia.
Final Score 9-0.
We are now top of the league table and qualify for quarter finals day on Sunday 24th February
