What do you see when you look at this picture? A vase, probably. Do you see the faces as well? It’s a classic example of how the brain sees different things depending on how we process what’s in front of us. It’s amazing how our preconceived notions, our expectations, and our prejudices determine what we see – and how they block us from seeing what we don’t believe or don’t expect.
Jesus’ parables are kind of like this picture – what you hear depends on what part you focus on.

This Sunday we’ll hear a smattering of parables, about seeds and weeds, about shrubs, about yeast. Matthew 13:24-33 The beauty of the parables is how they open up our minds to see and hear what we don’t expect.
See you in church!

On the Lenten Horizon
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday service on March 6 at 7:30pm, and the journey continues for 40 days until we celebrate the beauty of resurrection on Easter.
Every journey needs a guide - and what better guide to the 40 days of Lent than the beloved poet, Mary Oliver? We will be offering a church wide devotional rooted in scripture and the work of Mary Oliver, who is widely celebrated as an accessible, insightful observer of the natural world, the life of faith, and the interplay between the two. These devotions will be at the heart of our lenten journey as a church and will serve as the key focus of our Wednesday night dinner series, Lenten Soup for the Soul. Our Pastors will lead us through a reflective time as we gather for dinner and reflection each Wednesday night, from 6-7:30 pm, March 13 – April 10. More information will follow as we approach Ash Wednesday.
