This year the City and County of Denver intends to adopt an updated Building and Fire Code, which will include the 2018 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) as well as a more ambitious voluntary “stretch code” alongside the minimum code. Denver has a goal as laid out in the 80x50 Climate Action Plan that new buildings achieve net zero energy by 2035. Denver has six code cycles to meet that goal. We will be finding ways to work towards that goal that also work well for the bottom line of the real estate industry.

The Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) has been hired by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) to engage stakeholders in determining how Denver might take the first steps towards the net zero goal through a series of proposed code amendments to the 2018 IECC. We are organizing a series of online and in-person meetings to discuss, vet, improve, and collaborate on these proposals.

Please let us know via email (cbrinker@swenergy.org) if you have an interest in participating in the meetings and/or being kept informed about the process. We’ll send you the full schedule of planned meetings.

  • Hold the Date: Initial Webinar to Explain City Goals, the Code Adoption Process, and the SWEEP/DDPHE Amendment Development Process, Wed Feb 13, 10am Mountain. Register here. (Webinar will also be recorded and posted.)

ESPC ESA WEBINAR SERIES

NOTE: This course was originally scheduled for January 29 but was moved due to extenuating circumstances.

This webinar is the first of a series will provide information, best practices, and resource for implementing an Energy Savings Performance Contract Energy Sales Agreement (ESPC ESA) project. ESPC ESAs are a great option for federal sites that are motivated to reduce site costs, have no capital investment funding, and cannot use the U.S. Department of Defense 10 USC 2922a authority for long-term contracting. Below is the schedule for the other webinars in this series:

  • ESPC ESA Webinar Series: Overview and Requirements - Tuesday, March 12 from 2:00 - 3:30 pm EST
  • ESPC ESA Webinar Series: Photovoltaic Project Considerations - April-May 2019
  • ESPC ESA Webinar Series: Site-Specific Stand-Alone Project Overview - July 2019
  • ESPC ESA Webinar Series: ENABLE with an ESA - October 2019

The ESPC ESA Webinar Series: Overview and Requirements webinar will identify the benefits of on-site photovoltaic projects, followed by a description regarding why it is important to act now (due to pending investment tax credit reductions). The ESPC ESA project structured description will begin with a high-level overview of ESPCs and power purchase agreements (PPAs); followed by ESPC ESA project requirements and contract structure recommendations. An overview of the implementation approaches and available FEMP resources will also be provided. There will be approximately 30 minutes allocated for questions and answers.
