Have you ever thought about how special life events are also focused around a meal, a special banquet or a fellowship dinner?
As I think about the hundreds of weddings that have been held at TBC during Judi and my time there, they all are followed with a special wedding banquet. Also, it seems at TBC, each Sunday there is group cooking some type of celebration lunch.
In the Bible, it says that the new believers in Acts 2 “broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God.” In Luke 9 you and I can read about the crowds that followed Jesus and they grew to more than 5,000 and Jesus performed a great miracle and it says in verse 17 “They all ate and were satisfied.”
Many of Jesus’ most striking actions and words and teachings came around a meal table. And not the least was on the occasionin Luke 14 when a great Pharisee invited Jesus for the evening meal. The occasion was one of hospitality and friendship and fellowship.
One of the guests at the table with Jesus said in Luke 14:15 “What a blessing it will be to attend a banquet in the Kingdom of God!” Then Jesus shared the story of a great man who gave a big feast and invited many people.
And the purpose of this A THOUGHT FROM YOUR PASTOR, is always, you and I ought to combine the same excitement and joy of fellowship and eating with others with the joy and excitement of spiritual things and your fellowship and eating, whether the group is large or small, it should be a worship time and celebration time cause you know the true and living God.
Please let me tell you, if attending TBC becomes a necessary routine, like an obligation, if your involvement and ministry and going to your TBC Small Group becomes a drudge or if it becomes a grind, that is NOT WHAT JESUS CHRIST INTENDED! Jesus intends your spiritual life and my spiritual life to be like a daily feast and banquet and celebration cause you and I know the Savior Jesus Christ.
So, I encourage you today, every day and this weekend, to always celebrate your life in Christ, the same way you celebrate at a wedding feast, at your small group meal, or large fellowship meal together.
In Christ,
DENNIS FOLDS
