A sculpture by Otto Pierce at Sable, wondering when spring is going to arrive...
The season is changing.

Winter is starting to loosen its grip on the land. The sun sticks around a little longer each day, the first seeds are in their starting trays (onions, shallots, and leeks!), and the greenness of Spring is just over the horizon.

For now The Sable Land sleeps, still tucked under its snowy blanket, maybe dreaming of the past, maybe looking ahead to the stirrings of a new season. As are we...

We have achieved a lot over the past five years, and while we could talk about it for pages, sometimes a few numbers can tell an even better story. So here they are! Since 2014:
  • Artists Hosted: 47 (18 in 2018)
  • Guest Artists Hosted: 9 individuals/groups (4 in 2018)
  • Farm Volunteers Hosted: 10+
  • Artist Origins: 20 states
  • Artists who now live in Vermont: 4
  • Number of Food and Art Fridays: 36
  • Showcases: 5
  • Conferences hosted: 2
Of those 60+ Sable residents, 11 grew up in Vermont, and four were born elsewhere but now live here!

Last year was our biggest season yet, with well over 1/3 of the total resident artists we have ever hosted. Looking ahead, we hope we can continue to expand and grow in 2019, bringing in more and varied artists, folks of diverse backgrounds and identities, and even more of the surrounding local community to our events.

That said, only a few weeks left to apply for our Summer and Guest residencies! Learn more below, and please spread the word to anyone you think may be interested.

With love,
The Sable Team
