EuFMDis Update
March  /  Parma - Rome

The EuFMD developed the European Foot and Mouth Diseases Spread Model (EuFMDiS) and, at the end of 2018, participating countries revised and/or completed the data needed in order to represent in the model the different herd types and to parameterize FMD spread and control. The incorporation of these data and the addition of new features into the model have led to an improved version of EuFMDiS which will be released shortly.

Livestock mobility and FMD surveillance control in Africa
22 January / Rome

A one day-technical meeting was organized in FAO headquarters against the framework of the CIRAD and EuFMD collaboration. CIRAD researchers and EuFMD animal health officers discussed recent achievements and future directions for a better risk information and mapping system for FMD.  Preliminary results of the CIRAD activities in Africa were introduced by Cécile Squarzoni-Diaw (CIRAD) and Andrea Apolloni (CIRAD), with a specific focus on livestock mobility between Sahel and Maghreb regions and implications for the design of Transboundary Animal Diseases surveillance and control activities. Carsten Pötzsch (EuFMD) presented the advancement in FMD control in the Transcucasus countries and neighbours. The potential for adaptation of CIRAD methodology to this particular context was explored.   This one-day technical meeting strengthened collaboration and knowledge transfer between CIRAD and EuFMD in Africa and paved the way for joint activities in West Eurasia.
