Presentations in this webinar series emphasize work by fire ecologists and research-management partnerships. Researchers will address fire effects and implications for land managers, as well as describing hypotheses, experimental designs, and methods which could be adapted for future applied fire ecology research.
Presentation 1 – Feb. 19, 2019, 2-3 PM Central
Devan McGranahan (North Dakota State University) and Carissa Wonkka (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) present, "Fire Science Literacy: How to better understand and communicate the wildland fire environment."
Presentation 2 – March 6, 2019, 12-1 PM Central
Nathan Holoubek (Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources) presents, "The Danger of an Overly-Precise Burn Prescription: Re-visiting perspectives and knowledge gaps on fire and which factors to consider for measuring success."

Wisconsin's fire science networks are collaborating to convene an ad hoc working group on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 1:30-4:30 PM.
Fire and Management in Wetland Ecosystems - Identifying Priorities for Information Sharing and Research
Do you use fire as a management tool in your work with wetlands? Why or why not? What issues are limiting your use of fire in your wetland management?
This facilitated session is designed to support networking and exchange among participants, as well as provide an opportunity for practitioners and researchers to discuss and document questions and issues that are limiting prescribed fire in wetland restoration and management in Wisconsin.
The outcomes of this discussion will be used to inform the Fire Science Exchange Network’s future education and outreach activities across Wisconsin and to inform researchers, agencies, and other partners involved in developing or funding fire research in the Upper Midwest.

Fire Research Symposium @
Ecological Restoration Meeting
|
|
Join us at the annual chapter meeting of the Midwest/Great Lakes Chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration
April 12-14 @ Pella, Iowa
Friday, April 12
Symposium: "Incorporating fire research into land management and restoration work across the Midwest"
This symposium is co-organized by Dr. Yari Johnson, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, in partnership with the Tallgrass Prairie and Oak Savanna Fire Science Consortium. Researchers and practitioners will share their experiences integrating research and management, as well as efforts to involve undergraduate students in prescribed fire. The symposium includes 4 speakers and a question and answer session.
Poster: "Can we improve the potential for fire research to inform management decisions?"
Continue the discussion Friday afternoon during the poster session, when we will share an update on information gathered about prescribed fire programs at field stations across the Midwest.

Cultivating Pyrodiversity: 8th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress
November 18-22, 2019 @Tucson, Arizona
The Association for Fire Ecology is hosting this event in Tucson, Arizona in cooperation with the Southwest Fire Science Consortium. Presentations will feature the latest in research results, applications, case studies, and lessons learned, and special sessions will be designed to unify science and application and to create opportunities for interdisciplinary learning. In addition, fire circle discussions will allow small groups to focus on key topics and learn from one another.
Plenary sessions will include the popular Fire AFEx Talks, which are engaging presentations (think TED or TEDx talks) that will focus on the conference theme and integrate multiple topics.
The organizers welcome all those interested in fire ecology and management to attend, and they aim to create a diverse and inclusive event.
