The Downtown Plan review and update process is in its third phase. Last year, the City engaged residents on the vision, key issues, and potential development concepts for the Downtown. Based on this feedback, the City has prepared refined development concepts and strategic directions to guide policy development under the following key topic areas: transportation and mobility, infrastructure and environment, housing, parks and recreation, and community well-being.

The Downtown Plan Community Conversation Guide provides an overview of the draft community vision, development concepts, and strategic directions for the Downtown and can be found at LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/DowntownPlan.
Engagement Opportunities
There are multiple ways to get involved and provide your feedback, including an open house, an online survey, or a take-home Kitchen Table Conversation Kit. Read on to learn more...
Open House
To obtain feedback on the strategic directions and development concepts, the City is hosting an open house, which will consist of interactive displays, a presentation, and a panel discussion with audience Q&A. Residents will be encouraged to comment on how the development concepts and strategic directions help achieve the vision for the Downtown, identify what actions can be taken to make the concepts and strategic directions happen, and provide any further ideas that may not have been considered. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

     Wednesday, February 20
     When: 5:30-7:30 pm

Online Survey
Complete our online survey to share your feedback on the development concepts and strategic directions. Submit your survey no later than March 18 for a chance to win a $50 Downtown Gift Certificate, generously donated by the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association.

Kitchen Table Conversation Kit
A Kitchen Table Conversation is a creative and fun way for small groups to provide input on the future planning of Downtown Kamloops. The setting can be informal: a kitchen table, a classroom, or a coffee shop. Participants don’t need to be an expert on the subject, but they should have a willingness to listen and share ideas about the future of our Downtown. The Kitchen Table Conversation Kit includes a facilitator’s guide, a set of eight large-format worksheets, supplies, and reference materials to assist with your group’s discussion.  Click to learn more and to register.
Next Steps
Feedback collected during this phase will be summarized, reviewed, and analyzed to help refine the development concepts and prepare a draft Downtown Plan. In spring 2019, City staff will conduct engagement on the draft plan to ensure feedback was accurately captured and that all ideas have been considered. The Downtown Plan is scheduled to be presented to Council for adoption in mid-2019.

Stay up-to-date on this project at LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca. There will be future opportunities to provide input into the Downtown Plan review and update process in the coming months.

Sincerely,
Jason Locke, Community Planning and Sustainability Manager
