Dear Terra Community,

This dreary winter weather has us staying inside and bundled up, which means we are spending lots of time catching up with back-end tasks like website maintenance, researching for upcoming content, as well as promoting our search for Terra co-founders! Could it be you?!

We are also hoping to raise $216 by next Wednesday February 13th because that is when our squarespace website hosting fee is due! We would appreciate any amount of donation that our community can afford that will go towards keeping us online and live through 2019! Don’t forget you can also become a monthly patron for just $1 on our Patreon site! Fundraising is what we have to do to keep our authentic content free from corporate sponsorship.

If you're able to make a gift of $5 or $15 or even $50 before the month is up or you’d like to subscribe for $1 a month to our Patreon, please do! Your additional contribution means so much to us no matter the amount!

We can’t deliver fierce feminist media for the outdoor industry without you lovelies!

We are ALWAYS looking for submissions so send us your pitches!

This week proved that white people in the outdoor industry are still too comfortable. We have CEOs who are telling DEI facilitators of color to take their shoes off because they are “distracting,” and white women giving each other awards for doing jack shit.

In other news, people are pissed at Chris Sharma (rightfully so) for scaling the walls of a cave...if only people could be this pissed about the desecration that occurs all over Payahüünadü, or Bishop, CA. Winnedumah is an 80-foot-high rock monolith considered to be a relative of the Paiute people, but climbers bolted a route to the top, and now indigenous leaders are requesting to have the bolts removed. The outdoor community needs to be building relationships and coalitions with indigenous communities, and we need to listen and respect their voices when they express their concerns.

We could also learn a thing or two from
Bolivia who granted nature with equal rights to humans.

What if we valued all indigenous land as much as climbers value the "Buttermilks"? (Payahüünadü - Bishop, CA).

Events to look out for:

If you are in Reno make sure to attend No More Stolen Sisters: Demanding Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. An event that aims to raise awareness about missing and murdered indigenous women and to discuss solutions to end this violence. Jolie Varela will be there representing Indigenous Women Hike and speaking about healing through Mother Earth.

Trainings:

Facilitate for Freedom: A Facilitation Skills Workshop Hosted by AORTA

Description: Facilitating groups towards full member participation and democratic process can be challenging, especially when dealing with dynamics of power and oppression that often marginalize women, people of color, queer, trans, and gender non-conforming folks, people with disabilities, and those with limited access to the cultural cues that come with class privilege. Some simple tools can drastically shift the energy of a meeting, might help you hear new voices, and invite the perspectives of all participants. Join AORTA (Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance) for a half day workshop to practice and build confidence to disrupt harmful dynamics and move towards facilitating for justice.

If you are a white person who wants to work on their anti-racism we highly recommend L. Glenise Pike! She has an active Instagram account where she posts in-depth, informative messages about anti-racism, and also has a patreon where she publishes regular videos that dive into topics like “How to Show Up for Your BIPOC Friends When Racial Violence is in the Media.”

We would like to get to a sustainable enough place where we can have a full time staff and offer them retirement plans. Thank you for supporting us as we try to make this dream a reality! Here's to working our feminist butts off,
