Communications…
Good afternoon dear reader & welcome to my world this week. Following my article from last week on being decisive I received some tremendous & lovely feedback, thankQ to those who take the time occasionally, whilst not necessary, appreciated. One such reader actually approached me & asked if I had ever written about millennials? Not as I recall I indicated, however, I also felt perhaps not the easiest of topics & one often covered by many a more erudite scholar than this simple country boy…
However, the inspiration has flowed since on this extremely interesting topic now we have something like four ~ five generations beginning to work in a variety of areas together. Typically many with & from varying cultures & different values or background which can, or could be according to the experts, problematic.
Interestingly therefore in deciding whether this article should be entitled Relationships, or simply Communications; they are however synonymous & closely associated with or suggestive of something similar to each other.
For relationships to be truly successful, we need to be able to communicate well with one another. When we do not share our true thoughts & feelings with others, it can lead to resentment, bitterness & confusion. When we do not tell one another what we need, we cannot expect people to know. And, if we do not communicate when we have been hurt, we cannot expect people to either apologize or change their behaviour.
In society today, communication has reached new levels. Through social media we can now share our lives with hundreds of people at the press of a button. However, in many ways we still find it difficult to express the issues most important to us & to communicate properly in a conflict situation.
We need to make sure we are raising issues in our relationships, & raising them in the right way. Once we have raised an issue in the relationship, we need to be willing to hear what the other person has to say & forgive them ~ if need be…
No person, & therefore no relationship, is perfect. People make mistakes. If we are going to make any close relationship work, we need to be able to communicate well. And when in a relationship with someone, or a team, we are not competing as individuals. Being part of a team is all about support, comfort & encouragement.
So, how do we help each other to grow, encourage & build one another up? There are obvious ways to do this, & most importantly we can be honest & accountable, pointing out when something is not quite the best & together asking for answers to things we are struggling with.
So, in our relationships, let us be people who encourage & help people to grow. Our relationships should not stunt either own individual growth, likewise the same thing for others, millennial or otherwise.
Thank you for taking the time to be with me once again. I hope my journey may encourage you also. This is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson, with my best wishes for another week… I look forward to being with you all again soon.
