I came home from the hospital Thursday morning wearing lovely white compression hose that looked like they belonged on the legs of a can-can dancer.  My daughter-in-law Kerrie is here ordering me to be careful, don't get up or walk by myself, or do all those other things we take for granted.  I am trying to be a good patient, REALLY, but it is so difficult.  My family is all doing their best to keep me in line, and being extremely helpful.  I am looking at a lot of sitdown time, and Dan, my oldest son, has loaded me with crossword puzzles and mind improving books.  I also want to give a big shoutout to the nurses and staff at Winchester Medical Center.  I don't think I ever had better care!  With the exception of breads and other baked goods, you can still find plenty of good eats at the market.  I promise to get back as quickly as I can, because I feel insanity might be just around the corner.
Looking at the weather forecast this week brings all sorts of slowcooked stews or soups to mind.  Make an extra large batch and freeze part for later.  Beef Burgundy, made with apple cider, mushrooms, and carrots, served over homemade noodles sounds like a great meal.  With a nice bottle of wine, you can turn it into a Valentine's Day treat.  If you want to eat light, all varieties of quiche can be conjured from eggs, spinach, mushrooms, and bacon or sausage.  How about making a nice sponge or angel food cake from those lovely duck or chicken eggs at the market?  Top it with ice cream and some whole berry sauce made from the frozen blueberries, raspberries or blackberrie.  If pies are easier for you, turn those berries, or apples, in a pie for your sweetie.   Remember, it is always the thought you put into the gift that makes it sweet.
Enjoy your market day Saturday, and I will see you as soon as I can.
