Well, first things first: We are in Africa!! Woohoo!
The roadtrip through continent number 4 will start soon!
As usual, you will find one of our favorite photos as a full resolution download below.
Have fun!
Being home after more than 2.5 years!

After our holidays in Thailand, we had six amazing weeks back home in Germany. We saw family and friends again, we ate a lot and laughed a lot. We visited our grandparents. We played with babies we'd met for the first time, and with kids who had grown up unbelievably fast. We were surprised by our friends from university with a crazy surprise party. We had a proper Christmas eve, quite a lot of snow (didn't really enjoy the cold weather though) and just a wonderful time!
The ship carrying the container with Willie (and his part time partner Clancy) was already delayed, so we extended our time in winter by another two weeks.

But eventually, it was time to leave. African summer was waiting and we were ready to hit the road again!
It's time for Africa!

So, here we are now in Cape Town. Still ready. But unfortunately, Willie isn't. First, the ship was delayed by a couple of more days, staying in Durban harbor due to heavy winds. Then, it took forever to load the container from the ship and bring it to the depot once the ship had finally arrived in Cape Town. And there it is, waiting for customs to clear it. And we wait.
And the worldwide hospitality continues...

But actually, we can't complain. We've already met a lot of great people and are enjoying the time here.
It started with Nic, our Couchsurfing host (Couchsurfing is an online forum where you can literally offer your couch for guests and/or look for a free couch somewhere to stay - and more important hang out with locals). Nic showed us around town, made our first braai (South African barbeque) and gave us some good hints for our time here.
Pierre and Adéle, proud owners of a Toyota Land Cruiser, like Willie, invited us via Facebook to a weekend in their beach house. How cool is that?? We spent three amazing days with them on the West coast north of Cape Town. We went on a drive through the dunes, had a braai at the beach while dolphins were playing in the water, and on the last morning, during breakfast, we saw whales jumping out of the ocean, just looking trough the window in front of us! They treated us so well and we had so much fun together that it was really hard to say goodbye and leave that little paradise.
From then on, we explored Cape Town a little bit more, walked around a lot, watched the sunset from Table Mountain - and called our shipping agent from time to time.
TIA

The latest news are that customs will come tomorrow to clear the container. We'll see.
We took our rental car and drove down to Cape Town over the weekend. There is no need to complain or to rush. We've already learned the most important letters for our overland trip part 2:
TIA - This Is Africa.
