If the Edgemar limit is exceeded, we will refer you to the CSUDH ballroom event with unlimited seating on March 14th. Since many participants in Reading the Landscape are connected with California State University Dominguez Hills, we look forward to seeing you at both screenings.

As a result of twenty years in wilderness sojourns augmented by decades of global travel, Hirsch isolated five patterns in nature and found them to be intrinsic to all alphabets ancient to modern. She conjectured that these forms were recognized universally because they mirror the shapes of neurons and neural processes involved in perception and cognition. After her premise was acknowledged in scientific conferences and journals, Hirsch released Cosmography: the Writing of the Universe that follows the discovery process of her theory (DVD 60 minutes, 1995). By 2000 educators of various disciplines suggested that she make a film for “kids of all ages” concerning the nugget of the hypothesis.

Reading the Landscape combines science and art as the five forms magically fly through fifteen countries and languages following global evolutionary migratory patterns. Immersions in cultural diversity demonstrate unique beauty and richness while affirming that we, as humankind, are fundamentally more alike than we are different.

A few of the many good words about Reading the Landscape:

“Beyond honored to receive this world-unifying lifetime achievement… Thanks for your dedication, perseverance and being true to your heart-wise insights. As I continue to marvel at our species design for and need to play, your contributions through this elegantly produced transformational film will take us a step farther into the evolution of wisdom, language and more. The biblical tower of Babel no longer needs to hold our mythic belief systems about language differences….”
– Stuart Brown MD, Founder of the National Institute for Play

“A terrific, intelligent and fun movie that will appeal to everyone, in every country, culture, background…important, fascinating showing how all humans are fundamentally the same - same brain, same alphabetic forms used universally as neurons reflect shapes appearing in nature...a step toward peace as it can unify friends and foes… should be shown ubiquitously - festivals, TV… great for adults as well as children… special showings in schools, kindergartens should be arranged. Lovely, magical, educational, passionate movie. Truly a tour de force!”
– Nathaniel Gutman, Illusion Pictures
