February 2019 Update

This year has already been very exciting for Canadian post-secondary sport shooting. We are welcoming two new teams: the Lethbridge Firearms Association and the University of Saskatchewan Shooting Federation. In addition, there are close to a dozen other teams forming across the country at schools in BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.

At the end of January, thegunblog.ca did a Q&A with us and wrote up an informative and interesting article.  It covers the full spectrum including our history, current programs, future goals. There are a couple of other media opportunities coming up in February that we are also excited about! Our hope is more publicity will help us make inroads at new schools and expand our league.

We will be doing a monthly email giving general updates, event information and a spotlight on one of our clubs. If you want to opt out (I wouldn't) then just shoot an email back and you will be unsubscribed! Otherwise, tell your friends, family, in-laws and shooting buddies about CUSF and our awesome newsletter.

Smallbore Postal Competition

We have extended the registration deadline for our smallbore program until Febuary 15th. While you can shoot your targets any time before April 10th, you must register now so that the DCRA can process your application and add you to the competition. Any student or student group is eligible for the program. Check out our website or facebook event for info and registration instructions.

Trap and Skeet Tournament

The 2019 Winter Trap and Skeet Tournament continues to take shape. As of right now we have all of our schools interested in fielding competitors, with a number of independent shooters also taking part. The satellite competition will be shot at local ranges across the country.

The Association of College Unions International (ACUI) has already expressed interest in working together to have some cross border competition with our clay breaking neighbors to the south. Check out their program here; definitely something to look forward to!

New partners!

Gun Owners of Canada have kindly provided us with our own forum! Check it out and join the discussion here.

In addition, R&R Rentals became our first official sponsor! We would like to give a big shout out to Brendan and the rest of the guys for supporting young adults in the shooting sports.

Club Spotlight: MRFC

Mount Royal Firearms Club is a campus club at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. We joined the CUSF upon its creation and have been heavily involved in supporting the organization. We see it as an opportunity for clubs across Canada to band together and cooperate, gaining strength through numbers and unity.

This year we have begun our Trap & Skeet Team and
have seen wonderful results out of it. We have engaged in practices
once per week from August to November (approximately 16 in the Fall
semester) and will be moving forward in the Winter semester with
practices twice per week (aiming for 32 before finals in April).

This has been a very successful part of our year and we look forward to working more with CUSF and the other university clubs across Canada.
