Sumter County Economic Development Exhibits at the 2019 World Ag Expo

Sumter County Economic Development exhibited at the 2019 World Ag Expo held in Tulare, CA this month. In addition to witnessing the vast array of agricultural products and equipment, we learned new trends that are emerging in the industry. Trends included grow media, hydroponics, soil nutrients and dairy innovations. It was a great opportunity to meet businesses looking to expand or relocate and share information about our existing agribusinesses and products produced.

Quarterly roundtable luncheons are held to discuss important topics and issues related to manufacturing and distribution operations. Opportunity Zones Bring More Business to Florida Ports

Investment and business growth in Florida's 427 Opportunity Zones will have a postive impact on the state's economy, and Florida's 14 seaports will benefit from increased trade in nearby Opportunity Zone investment. A local, regional and port-specific strategy for Opportunity Zones near each port will bring increased trade to our state from the Panhandle to the Keys.

Website Accessibility Lawsuits Are on the Rise

Businesses that had to make their physical spaces more accessible for people with disabilities since the enactment of the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) increasingly find that they must do the same for online access. Website accessibility lawsuits filed in federal court nearly tripled in 2018, according to a report by law firm Seyfarth Shaw.
