The Colts Connection
February 8, 2019
Dear Kennedy Families,

We hope you are all faring well amidst this cold and ice! Once again, we missed our middle level Community Conversation due to severe weather.  We have rescheduled the conversation for February 28 from 5:30-6:30 pm in the Team Room.  We will also hold a Social Media Use and Awareness Information session from 6:45-7:45.  All families are invited though the content will be geared for families with children in grades 5-8.  We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Laurie Putnam

Announcements

Student Support Paraprofessional Position Open

Please consider applying for our open student support paraprofessional position.  This person will serve a crucial role in maintaining a safe, kind, responsible environment for students at recess and lunch.  The position is three hours each day from 10:00 - 1:00 pm and is available beginning February 7.  Please visit isd742.org - departments - human resources to apply or contact Laurie.Putnam@isd742.org with any questions.

Digital Citizenship

What is the app Tik Tok? Does your child have it on his or her phone?  If so, here is a guide to helping parents understand this widely popular but potentially concerning app.

https://www.internetmatters.org/hub/esafety-news/tik-tok-app-safety-what-parents-need-to-know/

Please feel free to contact Holly Nelson, School Librarian & Media Specialist, with any questions.

PS: When I (Laurie) asked my own child if she had heard of it she said, "Yeah, it's like Vine only for bullying."  I wouldn't necessarily make the assumption that the app is only or always used this way but her strong reaction definitely gave me pause.

Field Trip to see our School Play

A note from Play Directors Ms. Bauer and Ms. Maurer:

Hello families of Grades 3-8 & Mr. Beneke's multigrade students!

Our Kennedy students will perform the One-Act Play on March 1st.  We are fortunate to watch the performance at the St. Ben's auditorium. To help off-set the busing costs this year, we are asking that every student who attending the play pay $1, if possible. We will send home a passive permission slip along with the a reminder of the fee. Please turn the dollar in to your child's teacher by the morning of March 1st. If the fee is a hardship for your family, please let Ms. O'Hare or Ms. Thomsen know.  No child will be excluded from attending this amazing event.

Jump for Heart & Fitness Fever Celebration Rescheduled

Our Fitness Fever Celebration (K-5) and Jump for Heart Event (2-4th grade) will be on Feb. 14th!

Our Classroom

2019-2020 Planning

We have begun planning for the 2019-2020 school year already.  At the end of February, we will send forms home to gather input into the type of environment your child learns best in.  For middle school students, we will ask them to select music and allied courses (8th grade).  If you have other feedback regarding structures or practices you'd like to see adjusted, please let me know.  I would love to meet with you to hear your thoughts.  I can be reached at Laurie.Putnam@isd742.org or 320-363-7791 x6502.
