Peter's Party

Last year Peter Birchall retired as the long-standing Chairman of the Lymm Twin Town Society. He took over the chairmanship in 2000 and its continued success has been largely due to his leadership. Last year 63 people (including 10 children) from Lymm and the surrounding area travelled to France for the exchange and were hosted by French families.

The Society couldn’t let Peter stand down without thanking him. So, we arranged a meal at the Lymm Golf Club. The photo was taken during the speeches where Peter was thanked by the Society for “his energy, his willingness to put the welfare of the Twin Town Society above his own personal needs, his initiatives on our behalf, his incorrigible optimism, his spirit and above all his personal friendship that so many of us enjoy”. The evening was a happy and fun evening for us all and the Lymm Golf Club played their part by providing us with an excellent venue and meal. Peter now is looking forward to being a member of the Society without the responsibility of running the club.

There was a slideshow of photographs running throughout the evening. Most of these were taken from our Website. However there were several old photos donated from the membership. These have been added to out website and can be found here if you are interested.

2019 Exchange

We don't have final numbers but it looks like a total of 59 people will be travelling to England for the Exchange and this will include 13 children in seven families . We will pass on the final numbers when we have final numbers from Meung..

We are still working through the detail of the plans for the visit and particularly the Group activities which currently are as follows:-

Wednesday 29th
About half of the group are arriving by plane, we believe early Wednesday morning whilst the others are travelling independently
We are planning a Welcome drinks reception at Arley hall at 5pm. (This may move to a later time if this is more suitable).
Thursday 30th
Group Day trip to Ironbridge - we avoided the Friday because of the Reception and the Saturday because of the BH.
Friday 31st
Free during the day and Gala Dinner Reception at the Fir Grove Hotel in the Evening. Normally we would hold this on the Saturday evening but we were unable to find a venue
Saturday 1st June
Free day to entertain your guests. On past visits people have got together as sub-groups to entertain.
Sunday 2nd
Departure day for most.

We are getting together advice for people hosting for the first time. If anyone has any suggestions of what we should include then please reply to this email. We do have an initial version on our website but it needs improving.

Help Required - Lymm Festival?

The Food Festival is on Thursday, 20th June. If we host a stall at this event then we increase our visibility to the people of Lymm and the local Councillors who approve our grant to help with hosting the French. Last year we acquired two people as a result of the stall. So we should host a stall if we can.

Unfortunately most of the current committee are on holiday on that day. Can anyone offer to help Mark and Pat. They could use help setting up, running the stall and tidying away at the end. You need not be present for the whole evening. This event is still a few months away. There will be a reminder nearer the time but if you can help then please let us know.

Help Required - High Legh Teas?

We are booked to host the High Legh Teas on Sunday, 26th August. This is our major fund raising event of the year. Last year we raised £800 despite the rain pouring down most of the afternoon.

Can anyone help Pat with the planning of the event? There is a little bit of preparation needed in the next few months but the main work revolves round making sure that we have the right quantities of each type of food and enough helpers on the day.

Dates for Barbecue and Boules

The date for the barbecue at the Cleggs will be Sunday, 30th June. We originally asked for the 14th July but the Cleggs are already hosting a barbecue for a different group on that day. Working backwards the 30th June was the first Sunday available.

The Boules afternoon and Peter's trip to the theatre will be in May and therefore a week or so before the Exchange.
.
