We are proud to announce two events happening this Spring to support BME people across the city.
Both events are family-friendly with free refreshments on offer. Thanks to a generous donation from the Brighton & Hove Bus Company we're delighted to let you know that free bus tickets will be available to anyone travelling by bus to either of the events.

BME Volunteer Fair
On Saturday 16th March we will be bringing organisations and people together for the first ever volunteer fair specifically for BME residents of Brighton & Hove.
With the tagline "Enhance your future and make a difference!" we hope that lots of people will come along to the BMECP to learn more about volunteering.

BME Wellbeing Fair
"The greatest wealth is health" and after the success of the BME wellbeing events of the past few years, we're thrilled to be hosting another on Tuesday 2nd April - also at the BMECP.

TDC’s Equalities team is involved in the delivery of a wide programme of work with people from BME backgrounds across Brighton & Hove. This includes a new social prescribing project – Community Navigation Plus, which links people from BME backgrounds with local groups, helping them address non-clinical issues. You can find more details on our website and please get in touch with Sayanti directly if you would like to learn more.
And about to launch is “MESH” an integrated ‘one stop’ advice service for migrants, providing a welcoming gateway to English language provision for speakers of other languages as well as other support services across Brighton and Hove. We'll give you an update once this is up and running.

After the success of our Coffee and Croissant Hub Networking events across the city last year, we have now set a number of dates for 2019.
These sessions are a partnership between Trust for Developing Communities, Brighton and Hove City Council, the Hangleton and Knoll Project and Serendipity. They offer a chance for community groups and service providers to link up with others in their area and find ways of working together, as well as sharing best practice and ideas.
The events take place in:
- Hanover, Elm Grove and Tarner (NB. recently extended to include Tarner)
- Moulsecoomb and Bevendean
- East Brighton
- Hangleton & Knoll

The next Community Buildings Network event takes place tomorrow - Tuesday 26th February at Community Base from 4pm- 8pm.
As well as the opportunity to network and meet the CBN committee there will be sessions on;
- The opportunities around the new Third Sector commission and a 'live' fundraising session.
- Making young people welcome in community buildings.
- Looking at the common challenges faced by those running and supporting community buildings.
We hope to see many of you there. Please let people in your neighbourhoods, networks or communities know if you think they might benefit from attending the event.

Portslade
The Trust for Developing Communities is working with the council and other public and voluntary services, along with community members and residents, to produce local priorities that we can work together on in the form of a Neighbourhood Action Plan. Find out more →

Moulsecoomb
TDC recently helped host a SkateJam at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre where several ramps were set up for young people to practice on. The event was organised as part of the ongoing skate park consultation in Moulsecoomb which you can read more about here →

Tarner
The hard working residents of the Phoenix area launched The Phoenix Residents’ Community Association at the start of this month.The group has worked really hard in the last year, getting the association constituted, and meeting regularly to tackle local issues. Read more →

Recent funding successes are helping us to crack on with some exciting new projects, particularly in the realm of youth work. As well as these we will shortly be starting an inspiring new project with The University of Brighton, training local people in Moulsecoomb to become Community Researchers and we have also recently received funding from Brighton and Hove Council for a new Education Hub Project and to continue our famous Coffee and Croissant sessions.

Please note that the Youth Led Grants Programme is now open and the deadline for applications is 3rd April 2019 . Community organisations in Brighton & Hove can apply to get between £500 and £5000 to fund projects for young people aged 11-19 (or up to 25 with special educational needs). More info here →

TDC is hosting a series of workshops for community volunteers in Moulsecoomb & Bevendean as a way to support some of the people doing great things in the area. We had a fantastic first session at the end of January which focused on self-care & wellbeing. Read more about it and sign up for one of the future workshops if you're a volunteer in the area.

TDC is involved with a fantastic new art project for 11-19 year olds. It's linked to the new archaeological exhibition at Brighton Museum which includes artefacts dug up from Whitehawk Hill.
Young people participating in the project will visit the museum and learn more about the history of Whitehawk. They will also create photographs and pottery inspired by the exhibition and their own lives. The art they create will be displayed in Brighton Museum and also at Our Place in Whitehawk as part of the Brighton Festival.

You might have seen us recently recruiting for the post of project case workers for "MESH" - the Migrant and ESOL Support Hub. Our new recruits will assist in the delivery of an innovative package of support to migrants, providing an integrated ‘one stop’ advice service, a welcoming gateway to English provision for speakers of other languages plus signposting to other support services across Brighton and Hove. We look forward to introducing our new team members to you soon
