Wellbeing at Work Programme Launches

A massive Thank You to everyone who came to the launch of the new Wellbeing at Work programme on Tuesday 12th February at Boringdon Park Golf Club. It was fantastic to meet so many new organisations and some familiar faces too, who we look forward to working with in the future with the new Wellbeing at Work Awards Programme. We were delighted to welcome over 70 businesses to the launch

The event was opened by Livewell Southwest CEO Dr Adam Morris who explained Livewell Southwest's emphasis on values, quality, skills and outcomes and its approach to employee wellbeing. Adam’s talk was followed by Sarah Lees from Plymouth City Council’s Public Health team. Sarah set the scene for the local picture of workplace health and wellbeing, including the Thrive Plymouth Year 5 context.

A short video presentation from the National Office of Public Health England (PHE) then outlined the benefits of improving workplace health and showcased the toolkits and resources available on the PHE website to support employee health and wellbeing.

The launch of the Wellbeing at Work offer, explaining the services available to businesses, introducing Livewell Southwest’s new workplace awards and the new website www.wellbeingatworksouthwest.co.uk was covered by Alison Rowntree, Livewell Southwest Health Improvement Manager. Alison’s input was followed by an introduction to Wellbeing at Work’s exciting new WorkFit project by Frances Brennan, Strategic Stakeholder Lead from Pluss. The project in partnership with Pluss has been set up to help people who are at risk of losing their job through issues relating to physical or mental health.

Reflecting on the launch, Alison commented: ‘’The event was well received and the opportunities to network gave a real buzz to the day. The feedback from participants was excellent… as was the lunch! We are looking forward to working with businesses across the City to promote Wellbeing at Work.’’

New Training Course Dates

We now have new dates for all our courses for 2019-20. Last year we trained over 1000 local people in all our various courses and are on course to train nearly 2000 this year. We are hoping to make next year another record breaking year.

We have our old favourites Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), as well as a few newer courses in suicide alertness (SafeTALK), healthy conversations (Connect 5 and MECC) and wellbeing (Wellbeing Champions and Healthy Eating Workshops).

The next SafeTALK course is on the 11th March so there is still time to book your place on this course if you are keen to take the first steps to help us make Plymouth suicide safer.

We are also offering ‘Are we ready?’ To Talk about Bereavement and Grief a 1–2 hour workshop that aims to help you understand some of the processes involved with grief, seek to dispel some of the misunderstandings surrounding communicating with the bereaved and will describe some of the ways to sensitively approach conversations to establish trust.
By the end of the session we hope you feel more confident about supporting someone who is grieving. Please visit the Livewell Southwest Academy website for booking details.

You can find more information about all the courses we run via the One You Plymouth Training page.

Encouraging Activity in your Workplace

As part of our effort to support wellbeing in the workplace we are able to offer your organisation the opportunity to loan Table Tennis equipment to help get your team more active. There are two options in place for you to consider.

Tier 1
Short term loan of an instant table tennis kit to enable workplaces to use desks/meeting rooms as impromptu table tennis tables.

Tier 2
Short term loan of an outdoor/indoor (weatherproof) table tennis table and equipment (can also be used for meetings).

At the end of a successful loan period your organisation will be able to invest in their own equipment if you think it has been beneficial (through subsidised packages from Table Tennis England) which would cost £50 for Tier 1 or £200+ for Tier 2.
