This Sunday: Fifth Sunday after Epiphany

This Sunday's Scriptures
Isaiah 6:1-13 | Psalm138 | 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 | Luke 5:1-11
The fifth Sunday after Epiphany continues to highlight unlikely instruments and circumstances appointed to reveal the glory of the Lord. “Who will go for us?” queries the voice of the Lord. A man of unclean lips, a former persecutor of the church of God, and three fishermen who couldn’t catch a thing. More surprising still, perhaps, is the fact that we are also called.

Music this Sunday
Holy Holy Holy, Lord God Almighty! ELW 413 | The Son of God, Our Christ, ELW 584 | Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound, ELW 779 | How Firm a Foundation, ELW 796

2018 Annual Congregational Meeting
The 2018 Annual Congregational meeting was held on Sunday, February 3, following worship.  The meeting took place in the fellowship hall and congregation members enjoyed a potluck lunch during the meeting which started with a short devotion lead by Pastor Fritz.  Reports from staff, leaders, and ministries were available electronically and in paper format with verbal summaries from our Vicar, Dana Rademacher Hansen, our Director of Music, Brian Schkeeper, our Congregation President, Drew Kmetz, our Pastor, Fritz Fowler, and our Treasurer, Charlie Horn.

New council members were elected.  Gail Farr, James Schneider, Charlie Horn, Max Grove (student), Philip Jones (student), Dan Ju (student), and Abigal Timmel (student) all were elected to the first year of a two-year term.  Michelle Eckert had been elected by the council to fill a vacancy and was elected by the congregation to continue filling the second year of that term.  Theresa Clark and Emma Reuschel are continuing in the second years of their previously elected two-year terms.

A 2019 budget with a $26,641 deficit was proposed by the council. Council noted that we finished 2018 with a surplus after receiving more gifts than were pledged for the year.  Council is also committed to continuing to gradually increase our pastor's pay package in order to reach at least the minimum pay level recommended by the Synod.  After some discussion about the ability of UniLu to weather a year of deficit spending if giving did not again exceed pledges in 2019, the proposed budget was passed by the congregation.

Our next Council Meeting will be on Thursday, February 21 at 7:00PM.
