Top Actions:

Whew, what a week! Much the way people watch the Superb Owl for the ads, the big news at SOTU was the action in the audience. The women of Congress didn't need a podium to make a statement, and everyone clapped for this epic clapback. In the end, we heard a powerful message about compassion for all and a repudiation of racism in America. Let's make it happen.

  1. Ways to say no way, no wall
  2. Going green!
  3. Restore rights for people in re-entry.

Action #1: Clap Back at the Wall

Deadline: every day through Feb. 15 - Clap if you can hear me, and tell our Members of Congress: No wall, no use of military funds for the wall, no further immigrant detention and border militarization, no bargaining to keep the government open. Rep. Lee is on the bipartisan committee with a 2/15 deadline to write the Dept. of Homeland Security bill to avert another shutdown. Sen. Harris is one of the original cosponsors of a new bill that would block the administration from using military funds to build the wall without Congressional authorization. Please thank all our MOCs for their work so far, and ask them to keep it up. See our article for detailed call scripts, contact info and more.

Action #2: Deal Us In!

Deadline: Ongoing - Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey just unveiled their Green New Deal (GND) proposal. Good news — Reps. Lee and DeSaulnier are already cosponsors! We can't wait to read it, and there's a long road ahead for it or any other environmental plan, but you can act now!
  • If you're in Rep. Eric Swalwell's district, tell him to join his East Bay colleagues and cosponsor the GND resolution. (email): (510) 370-3322 DC: (202) 225-5065
  • If you're in Rep. DeSaulnier's district, thank him for cosponsoring, and join the Sunrise Movement and other allies on Feb. 13 at 2 PM at the Rep's Richmond office about next steps for the GND. Details, map & RSVP here.
  • If you're in another district, check this link for updated info on events at your Rep's office between Feb. 11 and 13!
  • Tell our MoCs to support the GND Resolutions, take the No Fossil-Fuel Money Pledge, and work actively toward everything the Green New Deal stands for.
  • Read our recent article for lots more info, detailed call scripts, and contact info — and stay tuned as we learn more and post action items!

Action #3: Restore former prisoners’ voting rights

Action deadline: ASAP and ongoing - Guilty as charged, Mitch McConnell — the Democrats' provisions in H.R. 1 to expand voting access IS a power grab! And H.R. 196 would grab ... well, the Democracy Restoration Act uses the word “secure”  ... Federal voting rights for people with felony convictions. Help extend a voice and vote to this vulnerable population by contacting your Representative! Read our article for more info and a call script for each of our Representatives.

We Could Not Make This Up

The entire state of Virginia is having an extreme moment right now, but lest we think that kind of thing is all in the past, luxury brand Gucci comes up with this doozy — just in time for Black History Month! Speaking of fashion and diversity and the calendar, Happy Lunar New Year, everyone! And if you're thinking of laying out some $$ for these items, you'll appreciate Howard Schultz's note for Merriam-Webster regarding his kind of people. Melania, going shopping?
